1983 RX-7 GSL Doesn't hold Idle
1983 RX-7 GSL Doesn't hold Idle
I got it started today but it wouldn't hold idle, even if i pull the choke and press the gas. I press the gas and it wouldn't even gas up and just die.
What could be the issue?
If you say fuel pump, how do i wire an aftermarket fuel pump back on?

Might want to include more background info here...
-has it been parked a long time? Long-term Un-use can create diff issues than, say, "it ran fine yesterday". We need context.
-how did it run the last time used?
Off the top, unless you have done so, CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER. Easy, cheep. Important first step regardless. Located in front of drivers rear wheel...

It ran for 10mins and i shut it off.
Fuel filter looks dirty. Do you think fuel pump is fine.? I bought a new one..
Pretty simple to remove feed line at carb inlet and check fuel flow . If it is clean and steady into the carb , then next I would look at the floats , are they filling ? Then work linkage by hand , you should nice consistent shots
of fuel from the accelerator pump nozzles . Now we know fuel is there and entering the engine at least . If good to this point I would begin to look at all the possibles ( as mentioned by others ) ie : ignition , vacuum leak(s) etc. And hate to mention , but if the motor is tired and has sat for a period of time , an apex seal(s) may have stuck in a rotor .... low compression . Start with the simple stuff first .

The Field Service Manual has some good help in determining adequate fuel supply. It is available at .Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals
You bought a new fuel filter or pump - which? The stock Nikki carburetor is very sensitive to fuel pressure and the fuel pump needs to be the stock one.
