K well more info would be nice.
You have the 12A engine. All non SE models had it. You have the small axles, they got bigger halfway through 83. Most parts of any non se will fit with some exceptions. As i said really we need to know more about what you need to know. You list some questions, we give some answers, maybe tell you to search a bit and then you reward us with some pictures of progress.

Yeah it is basically a gsl with a targa band. Now this car could've "REALLY" been something if the targaband was covering some roof re-enforcement for a lift off 1 piece roof panel or even t-tops. Just imagine, that would've been cool. Instead the targa band is just a simulation for the imagination, nothing special really.

Oh, I thought it was something cooler. Like a targa top roofed first gen. The metal band thing kinda breaks up the lines of the car too much for my taste. But to each his own I guess.

It was probably a marketing gimmick to appeal specifically to the tasteless American market. Ya know, hood scoops and brake vents that aren't functional, **** like that.

there were two different variations of the targa band that was available with the IMSA body package. some were labeled as "Targa 7" and the others, especially the later models were simply labeled "MAZDA". this was printed directly on the portion of the targa band that covers the B-pillar. post pics if you have a chance to do so.
