1980 Just showed up at Pick Your Part

This just showed up at the Oceanside, CA LKQ. Looks pretty complete and nice. I hope someone can get down there and save as many parts as possible.

Somebody should buy the whole car. How many 1980 SA's do you see anymore, other than on this forum.

If it doesn't garner any early interest, it will get moved to the crusher / shredder pile quickly. I'd wager anyone in the area has about 2 weeks before that 80 is sacrificed to the smelter gods. Somebody get down there and save it! You know you wanna!

You can't buy a car out of a pick a part but you can strip it. Im already gathering my tools. Il take pics tomorrow . If any one needs anything post up NOW . I'm not going back and I WILL destroy things to remove things I want . Im going to get that relay for the dude who has the wiper issues.

We bought an FD from a U-Pull-and-Pay. We were picking it apart for several hours and checking out with five wheelbarrows full at closing time and decided to ask if we could just get the whole car. They were hesitant at first but said we could buy it but it could never be registered again. It had been hit on the right side anyway so it would need some work to even be a race car. But sometimes it is possible to get the whole thing. I'd hate to see this one crushed.

Such a shame it can't be purchased and restored. I love the SA in that color and being a west coast car, it will have none of the rust issues the cars here in Ohio and the surrounding states have.

everything is for sale for a price.....maybe that SA is "hot"......the person said that it wasn't for sale was probably a nobody that had no authority and gave answers by rote. Ask someone that is actually in charge, ask for the big cheese of the place.

A lot of these "pick a part" lots won't sell cars because of legal reasons. Typically they acquire the title and destroy it as part of their processing. To sell the car adds liability. It isn't a matter of making a good offer, I think their hands are tied.

@Frogman, If you go, I'm interested in the exterior body moldings. Especially the one ahead of the drivers side front wheel and one behind the passenger side front wheel, and both door moldings. They should still have the glued-on end caps in place and just peel off fairly easily.

Hey @Frogman - I need the interior A-Pillar (left and right side of windshield) trim pieces (if they are in somewhat decent condition) mine are turning to dust. At this point I don't care about color...

Sorry guys I got there at nine and left at 1. My phone died around 11 my time.
There is no idle arm, I went straight for that , dude had a powersteering set up . UT i have my old one If i can find it Just pay me what i paid for my Moog arm (50$) + shipping . I used a picke fork.
The A and B pillar parts were gone .
The rubber trim was all there .

What i did get . RB springs , A wiper relay . The front bumper corners ( the rears were gouged).
Window struts , washer fluid res with pump.
The sway bar mounts and bushings ( they are preety much new) . Door handles .Rear view mirror assembly . glass struts .

Some one took the door cards, tail lights , and radio and preety much every **** you can take by hand by pulling off

The glass is intact ,
Spedoo and dash cubbie are mint .
fenders are mint.
Doors are mint ( i kinda fucked up the right one getting the mirror off ) . Power anttena and left side light motor there
engine is fully dresses minus the distributor. Oil cooler looked dirty so i left it .
Rad intact with mods.
If i go again i need $$$$ . I blew all my money today and my dad wont do it again lmao.

Heck, I wish I was closer. Looks like my SA except without the peeling hood, fender, and bumper.

Those center bumper cover strips (black rubber stripes) and mounting hardware are worth saving (and I'm missing my rear one), would be a bear to ship though. All the rubber moldings for that matter are worth pulling since they sometimes fall off and nobody carries them anymore. Sad the car can't be saved, it even looks like a Stardust Blue...

if it makes you feel any better that car has been painted and heavily modded.

By the looks of it, it's gonna get stripped quickly. The car was home to a rat where the battery was and I accidently grabed the dead ******. The car reaked of rat **** and **** . The KYP spec 2 shocks were ALL shot . Car had powet steering , well I think It did . It jad a weird CV boot style system

The SA was never offered with power steering so it was likely an aftermarket setup. I wonder if it worked well. Glad you made it down there and got some parts though! I wish I had known sooner as I need a speedometer for my 80 LS and would have happily paid you for it. If you go back, please let me know.

I pulled all of that I plan on keeping The rearview , it's dry rotting but I was thinking of putting a layer of JB weld over it . My mirror is crumbling apart and has about a month of life left in it. As for the the side mirrors , they are mint , One has a gouge on it but I was planing on sanding it and filling it with black epoxy . If you want them PM me!

I took these pics as I was leaving ( friday) . No idea what is left now.

Preety much left the engine bay / exterior. untouched .

I'm regreting not pulling both fenders now that i think about it.. They were minf minus a few tiny dings that can easily be PDR'd
