1979 window struts

I am on the hunt for a pair of 1979 rear window struts. I thought I was looking for a simple wire to attach the rear window defroster (defogger?). Turns out that the ‘79’s have an integral connector on the strut that disconnects when the hatch is opened. This contact is integrated on the gas strut. When the original owner replaced the 40 year old struts, they used a modern replacement with no means to connect the heating element. Now the hatch stays open but you have to get out of the car to clear the window. (No rear wiper on a ‘79 either)

Short story is that I am looking for an original set in any condition. Turns out the originals can be rebuilt or I may be able to transfer the hardware to the new struts. Many thanks to KCREPU and Bonzai for my education!

I had to transfer my hardware from the old strut tower to the new one. You can also try Riggs Vintage Mazda on Facebook. They’re also on Ebay. I have ordered several things from them. They are out of Canada.

Here is a more detailed shot of the 2 contacts and wires on 79 struts. You still searching for a pair?

Still searching for a pair. Seems like most of them may have been tossed in the bin. I have been thinking of trying to 3D print them, but it would be a huge help to have an original to copy.
