I've seen one in the junkyard. but I didnt noticed any difference as far as interior and exterior. I cant recall what the emblem says but it was located between the doors and rear quarter windows. I think it only says GS or something but not exactly LIMITED EDITION like the S2

The one he's referring to is in a junkyard. They want freaking 1500 for it. it was stolen (salvaged title) and it looks like it has been repaired after a wreck.

It has an emblem on the outside side pillar. It says "Limited Edition" The interior is thrashed... it's missing pieces, cause people have pulled parts off of it, even though they're not supposed to. The 12a looks rebuilt with blue rotor housings.

I'd buy it, but I wouldn't pay more than 500 for it. Too much work to get it up to even par with my 82, and my 82 doesn't look close to perfect.

Another thing- this "79" Has a sunroof- 81-85 style. Now, I know for a fact that they didn't even offer that style of sunroof in 79. Also, the VIN # is not on the dash where it's supposed to be. I didn't look for it under the hood, though.

Gregs- if you go back and look at it, check to see if the body says "SA" It does have the SA bumpers and center console, but the sunroof says otherwise... also those are later model seats. If you take a look at the sticker on the right hand side of the driver's door, it looks like it has been peeled of, re-attached and re- stamped. I'd say there's some serious problems with this car. It does run well, though... needs exhaust too.

Can you tell I was seriously looking at it?

There was a well-know Limited Edition in 83, but I've also heard about a 79 Limited, but have been unable to nail down exactly what was "limited" on it try a search?

I posted a thread sometime back offering a '79 LE parts car for FREE. It's gone now, but the differences were mostly cosmetic, such as a 120 mph speedo and a digital LED clock. It also had a sunroof. Oh, and the wheels are different, too. They are 13", but they are different than the normal SA waffle wheels. Here's a pic!

Nifty!

You know what, thinking bak now, I do remeber when you were selling it, and I remeber you listed the features...
Guess I should cut back on smoking the cheap crack, eh?

Now here's a question... do you know WHY they made an LE in 79?

And are you ever gonna sell me your one piece Targa bar...

I have an 80 LS (Luxury Sport) model that was an upgrade from the standard models available at that time. Some say that the L stands for 'Leather', but I was never able to confirm that. Some of the differences are as follows;

1) Leather interior, brown, with brown dash, carpet, etc.
2) Clarion AM/FM/Cassette deck with amplified rear speakers and power antenna
3) Gold painted (flake) waffle wheels - standard models had steel wheels, or the silver center waffle wheels. The LS wheels did not have cutouts as in the pic above except for the most outside edge. Polished outter rim.
4) Standard 12A engine w/front mount oil cooler - O/C mounts below the radiator, which is different than the 84/85 front mounts and obviously from the 'beehive' mount.
5) Metal 'LS' badges on the B pillar between side glass and rear quarters.
6) 80 SA's (LS and other models) had the same sunroof design that would be used throughout 1985. Only the early 79's came with the two-piece 'lift' design, which are hard to find parts for these days.

The 80 SA models also upgraded ignition to electronic off of the points-and-condensor system of the 79's sold in fall of 78. This ignition system was the same that would be used in later models into the FB's.

Also, the 79 and 80 SA's are known for having slightly freer flowing exhaust mufflers due to the restrictions imposed by the thermal reactor and head pipe. Mazda reduced the restriction of the main tailpipe muffler to compensate for this, which means that if you add a 79-80 muffler to an 81-85, you will get slightly better flow and a bit more noise - but note that you'll need to cut and weld a fitting to your tailpipe to accommodate this change, as the SA mufflers have a very small lead-in tube and fitting, compared to the 81-85 models.

Hmmmm. I was sure that my SA had the '79 LE wheels, but they don't look anything like the ones that Wankelguy posted. I'll have to dig up a picture of them.

The '79 Limited Edition was to celebrate the 10th year of bringing rotary powered vehicles into North America or something wasn't it? I can't remember the number exactly but I do remember it being the anniversary of something. Those LE waffle rims look a heck of alot easier to clean than my waffles.

Also, wasn't the '80 LS Leather Sport ?

The Limited Edition was built in 78 and sold in 78 as the 79 Limited.

It came in only one color called Beet Black( drk grey metallic with gold.silver flake) came with removable hard sun roof 12A engine etc etc. 150 imported into the US in April of 78 and later a few more trickled in.

It was produced on the tail end of the racing models, and have a few more things in common with those versions then the S and GS models had.

It came with dark grey velour interior, auto antennae, special mags, and was stripped in silver and red. Each car was personalized with your name in gold.

It had a single Limited emblem on panals behind the door.

The original G and GS versions sold for about 7k and the Limited about 12.5k

I bought mine in 78, she is in my driveway.

Can't say that I myself have heard of a 79 Limited Edition but as some have said it maybe Luxury Edition. I know that my 81 is a Luxury Edition the only real difference that I have noticed are mostly cosmetic such as the different style rims. Or the digital clock. But other than the little perks I find it is just the same as any other rex.

first 79's had different sunroof hardware than the 80-85 cars

second they had 2-3 different styles of wheels in 79-80.
the common one was the waffle style
then there were 2 accesory wheels, one style like pictured above.

i have a set of a 3rd style, if i'm down there i'll get some pics
