I also have a Limited. It's my F/prepared autocross car.
It has the Limited emblem, silver and red stripes, dark gray metallic (very faded), and a glass sun/moon roof. It had a LSD with disc brakes too. I don't have much of the Limited parts left. I do have the instrument cluster/speedo and the disc brake (LSD) rear end. It was one of two parts cars my buddy and I bought for $400. It had no engine or front suspension. It had the cleaner body of the two so I used it for the race car.

Ive seen an SA LE model at a Minnesota Rx7 club event. It was black, and I recall it having a vinyl headliner, and all of the silver hardware in the engine bay was brass or gold colored.
It was all stock too, no ghetto painted hardware...looked very nice.

that Ebay one that says its a Limited, but if it is there were more then just a few little alterations. It was repainted from the Metallic Carcoal Black to a pure simple black. 12A engines were stock in the 79 limiteds...so has had engine swap.
Also little things like the 79 Limited came with a motorized retractable short antennae( too short) so on the 79 G and GS models that added that long antennae shown in the picture in ebay. But that somehow doesnt look like it has been mounted as a retractable, can't quite tell.
The original limited plaques are mounted higher on the panals behind the windows, then he shows
The limited edition mags were only available on the limited. Thye were very similiar in pattern, to the G and GS option mags....except the design on the limited had openings of equal length, the G and GS mags had one long one short opening. They are hard to tell apart at first glance.

The 79 Limited Mags have a center cap that says Mazda, silver letters with black background. It would be kinda cool to have a page of all the stock wheels through the ages for RX-7's.
BTW I have 4-85 stock wheels in darn good shape few little spots, but very nice! FREE if you pay shipping total...I ahve some other 85 clean parts im gonna list in parts section, or email me..storage bins etc.

They're commonly called "snowflake" wheels.
I have about 7 of 'em.

BTW, that little "JMS" mark is on lots of different wheels, including the Enkeis on my Fiesta, so it's not a Mazda marking as some have suggested in the past.

1979 LIMITEDs
Hello all. First I must apologize for going on a rant further in this post. I am still quite disgusted that a year of my effort was totally wasted (you'll read why) due to someone who portends to actually care about Mazda history, so please forgive my complaints. They are included only because the person who slighted me never cared enough to answer his email when I was trying to contact him so I am hoping he will eventually read this and realize that the history he pretends to care about didn't get to be shared with everyone out there who cares about Rx-7's due to HIS actions. That being said,...
I happen to own two 79 Limiteds. I have one that my dad bought brand new in 79 (I rode home in the back) that has light mods like 17" wheels, mx6 rear wing, 95 rx-7 airdam, etc... and I also have a super clean all original (even down to having original white letter bridgestone tires) car with under 50k miles. I actually bought the all original one it to try to get it into a museum or at least to get it into seven stock at Mazda. It was shipped to California months ahead of time with the acknowledged goal of showing it at seven stock but the self important "power that B" that day (funny enough, someone not even associated with Mazda) didn't care that I spent a year going to super human and EXPENSIVE efforts to get this car to CA complete, clean, and all original (with free to be handed out color printed copies of the original ad and a huge framed artwork telling everything you would ever want to know about this car--you know, the origination of RX-7 HISTORY) and so this person decided to not put the car in the paddock at seven stock. In fact, he didn't even care to have it outside at all. (Thanks--hope you feel really good and powerful about keeping my car from educating people for no other reason that to say "because you said so"). JEEZ! Is everybody else tired of meeting people like this in life? As a side note to that person:--People obvilously ARE interested in this car. Why? First year out for Rx-7's, LIMITED EDITION OF ONLY 3000 MADE, 25 years old now = antique, obscurest of obscure. Do you get it yet? How is it that the self-important all-about-me people ever get to be the ones in charge? Do they slip in when the nice people at the top aren't looking? I just don't get it. You can think you are cool and "totally in charge", but if you disrespect people, you will never be TRULY in charge because you never truly earn allegiance. Basically everybody, I love Rx-7's and I did my darndest to try to share this cool limited edition car with you. It really still makes me shake my head that just ONE GUY's limited vision could keep that from happening, especially after so much effort. I have spent YEARS trying to learn about these cars and collect as much info and original parts as is humanly possible. Ever try to find original tires that are 25 years old? Point made. Anyway, if you look on ebay every once and awhile you will see an ad for the 79 LIMITED that someone has cut out of a magazine that hit the racks in 79. It says "Only 3000 lucky people will get to own one" at the bottom. Special wheels, silvery grey door panels inserts and seat cloth, digital clock in the cluster, 5 spd, beat black metallic code E6, silver over bergundy pinstripes--try to find a car with THOSE intact!, clarion radio and tape deck with an amp under the passenger seat, silver console and shifter surround, and a "LIMITED" badge on the b pillar. No, it didn't say LIMITED EDITION or ANNIVERSARY, just LIMITED. I think that is about it. Basically a special edition fully equipped model so it had the sunroof, rear sway, and 5 spd. Any questions? Got one of them? Please email me. I want to start a registry to see if the serial numbers are all sequential. There are NOT MANY OF THESE LEFT. All I have ever wanted to do with these cars is to share them with others who are really interested in Rx-7's.
Thanks for listening everybody, and I hope this gets more people interested in this very rare car.

Beautiful car Todd.
Nice trick with the photos too - thanks for links!
Anybody got some nice photos of their SA "LS"Leather Sport or "XX" Anniversary SA?
That would about cover the N. American "specials" for the 79-80 production run of SAs...

(plus a shed full of 79 Limited parts)

i have a few nice photos of my 80 Leather Sport that i'd share. if you guys want, we can start another thread with our pics of limited run SA'a and FB's.
for reference, the "X" model was produced in 1980 and was called the anniversary RX-7 all were shot in renaissance red and they signified mazda's 10th year of selling cars in the north american market. there was no production number by model. three vehicles in mazda's lineup had a special 10th anniversary paint scheme and badging. i believe the total production run was 8000. the models that could be obtained with the "X" package were the GLC, the 626, and the RX-7.

It is frustrating that your other LE wasn't displayed, despite your making it pretty much painless to do so. I'm not sure what drive some event organizers to do what they do. I'm sure you'll have better luck another time, but be sure that everything is straight and agreed to before doing any heavy lifting!

My car also has the "L:imited" emblem, but my car's an 80. I have read plenty of places that there was a 79 limited and an 80 X anniversary edition, but was there ever a 1980 Limited Edition or did one of the former owners just stick the emblem from a 79 on to it? The car was originally renissance red and all the VIN numbers match.
