FL 1979 Rx-7 StreetPort

Hi guys, my 1st thread so wanted to introduce car here. Its a 79' rx7 with 4 speed manual tranny. Also 12a rebuilt recently with a Street port to the limits, thanks to my mechanic, sorry confidential who it is. Has a RB header, custom dual exhaust piping merging to the RB muffler. Has new OEM clutch and some other things as well, like electronic ignition and GSL rear end(not installed yet).
I have plans to get a Weber system, RB light weight flywheel, stage 1 clutch, suspension and brake upgrade, interior work, some exterior and other things. The link has the pics. Any suggestions and feed back much appreciated. Thanks.

5 speed transmission upgrade for sure, so you're not maxed out on the highway and a front mounter oil cooler for sure.
It that an original spark yellow or has it been painted that way?
Just way too many decals for my taste.

I want to keep the 4 speed cause its rare to find. As for the oil cooler can i still use it with the beehive cooler. And its original spark yellow, but the decals are from the dealer back from the 70's.

You can still use the beehive but it's not as effective as the front mounted one that came stock with the car. Generally beehives are trashed for a better replacement.

4 speed transmissions came with the "s" model car or base model. I think it was only for a $1000 more you got the "gs" which has the 5 speed and a lot more goodies. I respect that you want to keep the 4 speed.

Fairly clean and straight S-model SA- - good project starting place!

Looks like someone has meddled with the front suspension, too - - those upper strut covers are not SA spec. Considering the rims, I'm betting the suspension has been swapped out with FB or newer parts.

Lots of potential there. I hope you fun with her.

Thanks for the compliment. I believe the suspension is still stock. Previous owner cut the springs and the covers i got from the junk yard. But i will upgrade suspension to handle the curves.

With all those decals, you need to swap on some waffle wheels. Make it period correct!

I can't remember; were the 'Plus' rims original SA or later FB bolt spacing?

I have an S series 79 RX as well... But somehow I have 2 sets of X wheels and tires. No waffels.

But I thought the pun was priceless and should have been said.

BTW: I don't want my 4 speed... I was gonna save it as a spare, but I think it requires a different starter motor. Do you want it?

Now that I look at the waffels closely... I like my X's.

I don't like the odd number of spokes on an even number lug patter.

Nice car you have there. I personally dont like the "+" style FB wheels on the SA. Just kinda look out of place IMO. I think this car being the base S model begs the question of whether or not it actually came with steel wheels. Correct me if i'm wrong but i believe the SA steels were the same as FB steels which might explain how FB alloys ended up on this car to partly retain the same looks

The 79 - 80 modesl came with either steelies or waffles. Some special versions also had a rare
AL wheel that looked different from the waffles. Plus wheels didn't happen until the 1981+
models.

To me seeing a nice SA with plus wheels just looks wrong. There's no difference in spacing or
size and even the weights are probably close, so its not a performance issue.

Its personal choice and personally I think waffles rule!
