1979 RX-7 rebuilding the shifter

Hello,

I purchased a shifter rebuild kit from Atkins Rotary for my 1979 RX-7. It came with two blue round bushings, but when removing the shifter I only see one of these installed. Is the one in the kit extra? Does anyone have a parts diagram of how these bushings are supposed to be installed in a '79? I've not had much luck finding anything on the SA.

When you pulled your shifter out was the one bushing the lower one? When I replaced my twenty-seven year old Mazdatrix short shifter a year ago there was only the lower bushing, the upper bushing had disintegrated from heat and use over the years. I could see small bits of bushing material stuck to the shifter, There is a hell of a lot of heat in the trans tunnel and you upper bushing probably met the same fate. Just my two cents.

Yeah, just the lower bushing mated to that metal clip with the three tabs was in there!

The parts fische can be your friend in situations like this. You can download it plus other manuals at foxed.com.
