15x7 rims...what size tires are you running?

I just traded the wheels I had on my car and I have a set of 15x7 Enkie 92's to replace them. But i am undecided on tire size.

I think a 205/50 would be best, but i am wondering how a 225/50 would look. to wide???

Anyone running these with a 225 width tire?

I have a 225/50/15 on the rear with a 15x7 [approximate due to the actual wheel specs being unknown] and it's a meaty tire for the size, even the 205/55/15 on the front is enough to keep me from ever rubbing the curb but while it's a nice meaty tire, the availability in that size [225] is VERY slim as I've tried to find substitutes for my BFG G-Force Sports and it usually results in cheapo or race tires with only a few in between.

Personally once I get new wheels [15x7 or 8] I'm going to a 205/50/15 due to the MUCH larger selection.

I just don't want an inch of tire sticking out past the fender... That's my main concern. But I love to meaty tires on 1st gens.

Got pics of your tires fitment?

I dunno the offsets because my wheels are unkown on everything except the fact that their 15s and weigh 20lbs a piece [bathroom scale ftw] but they fit damn near perfectly only sticking out ever so slightly but have never had a real problem with them ever rubbing aside from the fact that my suspension is shot.
but I would beware the inside of the fronts has about a thumbs width between the stock springs and the tire so under a hard corner I would imagine they might rub ever so slightly.

Please disregard the massive wheel gap, stock springs + no interior = massive weight off the back lol

Edit: here we go, a slightly better pic I hope

thanks.

Mine is not a GSLSE, but the 225/50 fitment looks nice. I found a great deal on a set, so I'll go with that for now.

thanks again.

I am running 15x7 ARE mesh wheels on my SE with 205/50/15 on the rear. I would definitely go with the 225's, thats what i will be going to soon.

looks like i win! 225/45/15's on 15x7 with a 7 offset, 12a suspension

the wheel offset is a little important, its actually really tight in the rear, it is pretty close to the fender lip, although there is room for like another inch of tire on the inside.

in the front there is plenty of room. i don't usually run that much camber either, that's like 4.5... its usually more like -2.5

I'm on stock suspension right now and 225/50/15 is close to 24" tire height. I think 1st gens with stock suspension are good to about 25" tires height before there could be a rubbing situation. I just wanted to see what others are running.

And it looks like 225/50/15 is a popular choice.

Got the car last week... got a set of louvers over the weekend!

Got the aluminum ones that sit low like yours. flat black on the rounded edges, brushed aluminum in the middle. needs a little cleaning, but they look sweet... strait 80's flavor.

What tires are you gonna get? I love my G-Force Sports and their predicability but the cost for replacements especially the 225s is over $100 a piece when I can get RT-615s in a 205/50/15 for $84 each.

Not sure if anyone has ever delt with these guys but they seem to have the best prices and selection around for tires compared to Tire Rack, Discount, UTB etc.

I will post pics soon... Just paid for a set of tires right now. will be here in 3 days. So when I get the wheels back on, pics will be up.

I got a set of Yokohama Advan 91V. Bought them used for 144 shipped and still in VERY good condition... So at a retail price of 260 and a sale price of 220 each, 140 is a hell of a deal.

I have a set of 15x7's, and am currently running 205's front and rear. Wish i would've put 225's in back and 195's up front.
That's my two cents..

Currently:

Front = 195 / 50 / 15
Rear = 225 / 50 / 15

In the past:

Front = 205 / 50 / 15
Rear = 245 / 50 / 15 (and, no, they didn't rub; believe it or not!)

I some how got slightly better times in auto-x'ing by switching to 195s up front from 205's. I thought I would lose some cornering ability, but the exact opposite happened. I originally made the switch purely for asthetics, and I was pleased by the end result. I like a nice raked look on the car, and the 205's just looked too big for my taste. I will keep this tire combo as I like the way it drives (and looks) the best.

Good luck on what you choose!

Front 205, Rear 225's on factory 14's... Might drop the front down to 195

Post up some pics!

Are these the wheels I traded you? I would love to see how they turned out. Let me know about doing that exhaust or if you have S5 NA intake manifolds for trade.

Heres a picture of my 15X8's with 205's.

'83 GSL Turbo Blow through S513BT, Enkie 92 series with Eibach springs and 205/50-15 fronts & 225/50-15 rears... Must roll fenders or they will rub. IMHO the best look for a FB. I miss that car! Though my current FB is way mo better. I just miss the boost.

Depends on your inentions for the car. If you're racing it - go with 13x8's if you can find tires for it.

I would stagger if I had the option again - 15x7 front 15x8 rear.

205/50R15 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11. 15x7 +7 offset Enkei 92's. They do rub on the drivers front, so I rolled it. I only rub rears on one big bump by my house, and the rears rub when I have my tool chest and a 3 ton floor jack in the hatch.

I know I do, but after finding the rust that I did and my clear coat giving up the ghost, I'm probably going to hold off until I can find an *actual* rust free shell.
