13B waterpump housing onto 12A?

Hey, can I put an aluminium water pump housing from a 13b turbo onto a 12a? Will I have space issues? Does it even work? Anyone done it? lemme know!

I just did this a while ago. I used a S5 housing but the concept is the same.

There are two issues, one is a clearance issue between the back of the housing and the front cover so you need to grind the housing to make it fit. The easiest way is to put some marking dye on the back of the housing so you can see exactly where it touches.

The second problem is the extra stud hole on the late model water pump housing which is also the mounting point for the alternator bracket. What I did was, tap the back of the whole for a 1/4 NPT plug to seal it up. I then tapped the front of the hole for an M12 bolt to attach the alternator bracket. You may also need to modify the bracket depending on which one you use.

Here's a few pictures of the grinding I had to do to the S5 13B water pump housing I put on my 12A cover.

I didn't have an extra hole to take care of...any pictures of that REVHED?

i found this same problem putting one on a '74 13b. i just filled the back side with silicone. i was at a friends house putting the engine together and my taps were at work so had to do what was available at the time. worked out great, no leaks.

This was bad thinking on my part. I'm actually putting the S5 water pump housing on an S5, hence, no extra hole. Since I'm doing a transplant I have to use the 12A front cover, hence the need to grind away part of the water pump housing.

Just wanted to clear that up.
