13B N/A tranny bolt up to 12a? // updates on bootleg '85 GS

hmm..this is going to sound dumb, and it is pointless
but here we go
ok
theirs a parts car down the street from me a guy is parting out
fresh 13B N/A tranny out of a vert for $75.00 and he will pull the clutch and PP for me also.... now...heres my question.. can i know the clutches are the same up to either 89 or 92 for the '84 ups.....so....would the tranny bolt up? or is it alot different? a little bit of custom fabbing would be worth it for a fresh tranny (imo) or should i just wait and buy the entire drivetrain from him..the motor runs good, id get everything, computer, oil cooler, whatever i wanted off of it...

sum it all up: will 13b tranny bolt up to the 12a / is the clutch compatible(i think it is but im not sure) and will the shifter location match....... ty in advance

updates on the bootlegged '85GS
------------------------------------------
Got RB ACV-CV cover plate, started cleaning manifold, sanded all the old gasket off of it, cleaning bores and smoothing them, took the pos shutter valve out! WOO .....

k next on the agenda:
epox the holes up from the shutter valve, rebuild carb (thats gonna be fun...not...)

or..i could buy the 13b N/A and start transplanting it in :\ ...

Trans will bolt up, FC clutch to your old flywheel no. No to changing to the flywheel from the FC 13b. The roatational weights will be different.. Even if its a GSL-SE, the SE has a lot heavier rotors used in them...

So use your old flywheel/clutch PP etc, bolt the tranny up, modify the shifter housing

A lot of work for hardly any benefit, but there you go, choice is yours.

its red so i doubt it has a blue interior (id be glad to snag whatever for you though) maybe it has a good top on it, i dunno, ill have to go check the car out... if its a S5 im going to snag the tail lights ..the car looks nice from what ive seen, (the front half)
the guy offered me whatever i want off the car for a nice price, so i think imma take him up on it (13b N/A into a GS wouldnt be too bad...wouldnt be to slow either, and id have more leverage to go up...)
i do have one nice help, a good shop teacher that has helped me constantly (hes helping my friend rebuild his cutlass's motor right now, really cool guy) so fab work is not -that- bad as long as i can get the metal im set..we have a MIG and a plasma cutter on hand, engine stands and harnesses etc.... everything but a dremel to polish the manifold so i had to take mine..lol

now i know this is getting off the topic of the thread and i probably shouldnt ask this before searching but im going to do it anyway.....

how much work is involved in putting a 12a front cover on a 13b? new seals? any new bearings or bushings or anything defunct like that? anything special that would trip me up?

As per this, check your PM, be sure to post it here, cause I should have. Will save anyone 100 bucks for a RB mount, theres no difference, its just flatened and rebent on the edges. Actually to tell the truth I think the ones RB sells are modified 12A mounts... Mine sure looks like it.

----- from pm ------
Now the 12A cover will fit fine no problem, I didnt use a new gasket, I only used Ultra grey sealant... I did however use a new o ring that goes behind the front cover, its the supply to the bypass valve on the under side of the block, also use a new e shaft seal on the center of the cover...Everything else is cream cheese LOL

The 12A engine mount can be used, just hammer the **** out of it till its flat, rebend the edges (where it mount the the frame) and crop one of the edges so it misses the motor (considering the motor is now 3/4 inch forward) enjoy..

MIKE

Actually the clutches are the same. from 83 to 88 they are 225mm with the same spline count. You could use the 13B trans, but the trans mount is different. I bet you can make it work using the 12A tailshaft, but I haven't tried it yet. I've got an 86 NA trans that I may experiment with if I get bored. I'd kind of like to have the .711 overdrive, especially if I ever put some 4.44s in the rear.

Well you used the term tailights , so I assumed it was the 89 + ones, like no one wants the 88 ones anyways.. LOL

Mazdatrix is right about the clutches. I have a clutch disk and PP off my 89 running on my 84 gslse right now. The only difference in the 89-92 clutches is they're a little stronger due to the added weight of the S-5s.
