13B MX-5 vs 13B RX-7

My Friends Dad Races his 1990 Stock Miata (when i can get pics i'll try and post 'em) its beautiful, anyways i was wondering if a Rotary powered Miata would out-perform a RX-7.... Any opinions would be nice.... good or bad

I'd love to have a 13BT in an MX-5.

They had an article about a Miata with a bridgeported 13B, widebody kit and Weber carb.....awesome car. I think it was in Grassroots Motorsports last year sometime, will look it up when I go home.

Or I might just take a few minutes and search the web, off I go!!

Results:

T2 Miata: http://cp_www.tripod.com/rotary/pg14.htm

The widebody bridgeport: http://akmiataclub.org/ipw-web/galle...otaryMiata_001

A different T2 Miata, I think: http://www.dragtimes.com/Mazda-Miata...slip-6202.html

That Aussie one is sick. I'd love to take that puppy to Laguna Seca for a day.

I believe the Miata to be the spiritual successor to the 1st generation RX-7. A rotary swap suits it perfectly, look how much room there is:

[QUOTE=RE Matsuda]I believe the Miata to be the spiritual successor to the 1st generation RX-7. A rotary swap suits it perfectly, look how much room there is:

The Miatra design philosophy has little connection with the RX-7. It was based on building an open two seater on the 323 platform, the Ford Capri was the same. Mazda has even made substantial profit from making them, with very few warranty problems like the later RX-7s- the mechanics' nightmare.

The first series was really an underpowered ladies' car, quiet with good handling characteristic. Since then it has become larger with a great performance, now a six footer can drive in comfort. A Miata with the same power as an RX-7 will have a far better performance then a Gen1. A 13B REW ported engine with a large turbo in the latest Miata would be fantastic, bringing back memories of my youth in a Lotus Super 7 when to be a true sports car it had to be open, loud, with minimum luggage space.

The operative word was "spiritual", as in the 1st gen was a sub-2500lb, under-powered, cheap, good handling fun car. All of these characteristics describe the old Miata as well, and most of them don't describe any other generation RX-7. Just an opinion.
