13B 4 port conversion who has done it?

Would just like to know if anyone has done the 13B 4 port conversion and if they could tell me how they chose to do it and how hard it was and finally how it turned out. It would be great thanks.

Curtis

i loved mine.. unfortunitally i just lost a water seal, and so need to rebuild it now.

swap is the same as putting in any other motor.. just through on your front cover and oil pan.

My buddy mike has done it. He swaped his 12a for a street port hybrid 4 port 13b. He used rotors/e shaft from a repu motor (they have lower compression), 12a side plates and gsl-se rotor housings. He has a Yaw carb and custom exhaust. It's pretty quick.

The reason he used the lower compression REPU rotors is that he's going turbo in the future.

His name is Puaka on this forum but he is hardly ever here.

Mike

Yep, that's me. I used 12a side plates, REPU rotating assembly, J-spec TII rotor housings (don't ask me where they came from but they are actually grooved for the water seal). It's got a big street port, GSL-SE oil pump, flywheel, and oil pan, and a 12a front cover with an oil drain added for the upcoming turbo. I'm using a Yaw street carb on a modified '78 manifold. I have a straight exhaust through a RB muffler. It is pretty quick thoug it is not optimized yet. I'm using an exhast manifold on it and my carb is still jetted for the old stock port 12a. I want to put a header on it and rejet it before I do the EFI/turbo conversion. Hopefully that will happen soon. OH, you'll need to either have your 12a crossmember slotted, get a premade one from racing beat, or use a GSL-SE front cover and cross member (your oil metering will get tricky this way though)

rather than building a hybrid motor, grab a 13b out of an rx-4 (if you can find one).. that is what i was using, with a mild street port, and it was definatly fun.. really nice flat torque curve as well.

edit: it is for sale as well.. has a bad water seal, otherwise everything is good.

Its good to hear someone tell exactly what they did. and that it worked. Its usually just "this is what you CAN do." but never any specifics. I want to do a 4port 13b transplant eventually. So, yeah. Thanks for the info!

Also if i used my gsl-se front cover and cross member but i wasnt goign to go turbo what oil metering problems am i gonna have. And homw much rwhp does your engine put out and are you going to change over to FI anytime soon cause i need to know if its easy to use the 12A conversioned engine with FI....what middle plate are u using in your engine?
