134db with storage bin subs!!!

134db with storage bin subs!!!

Well I have the long awaited answer to all the nay sayers. I hit 134 db with using the storage bin as enclosures. Everyone will have there opinions on the sound waves and all, but I think it turned out well. The enclosures are only .65cuft each, which is recommended by Alpine. I think I could have gone louder with larger enclosure, but thats all I could fit in the location.

John, in all honesty, the naysayers were moaning over the people that just want to toss the bin lid and simply put an MDF or , Lord help us, a plywood plate with sub attached and that's it, into the otherwise untouched storage bins. That cheapo set-up is no closer to resembling your effort than heating the front springs for a 1" drop is to installing Tein coil-overs. Your project is how it should be done as all the speakers really need to be as close to each-other as possible. The "omni-directional" nature of bass waves let's you stretch that a little more, but it's funny how the ear, with the visual cues provided by the eyes, can still "place" bass speaker location regardless. I, for one, really like what you did on your site regarding the box build-up...outlining your methods and everything.

That was a really sweet install, excellent job with the sub box.....

I especially like those front speakers, the grills look wicked. What size and brand are they. And how'd you get the grill to fit on the drivers side.

My fronts are a 4 inch co-ax with an almost flat grill, and I had a bitch of a time getting the drivers side on because of the hood release.

Very nice install! Looks great. I wish someone made a box like that and marketed it.. I don't have the tools or patients to work with wood or glass..

Jimmy, Those are the new Alpine 51/4" coaxles. I took the hood release off and then cut the metal out behind the speakers, this could be a bitch if you don't have air tools. It gets kind of cramped in those tight confines. After I installed them, I just reattached the hood release 90 degrees from original. It now sits nice and snug against the speaker cover.

You know what John, I have always dissed the bin installs, but yours is the first that really impresses me, as well as the fatmat. very nice job. I have 2 - 10" fosgates in a custom ported box - designed to spec, 3/4" MDF ports fire forward, subs upward, and reflect off the hatch forward. It sounds amazing, but any stereo thief can see them in plain view, and its a pain in the *** to take the box out when I race my buddies and kick their asses... cept I lost twice, once to a modded 5.0L (****!!) and once to my buddies 01 Duramax Diesel - chipped, air, etc, his truck annihilates and runs a 14.47 - 9000 ish lbs!!!! Its great, because I pick up chics for him, then we get in on tha leather, an start havin some fun. A great game -> Rock paper scissors, loser removes clothing gotta love being good at that game , and havin 4 nekked chics on leather !

Awesome install. I like how the upper edge of the box can stop things in the hatch from rolling into the front seats!

I figure I'll need 4 12s and a couple of 10s to get there...plus a really good alarm/paging system since everything will be screaming, "Steal Me!!"....

Mar, that car was never ment to be driven or even sat in. Its an SPL monster. Just think! If I could put 5 15's in the 7 it could hit 165dbs, plus blow the rear hatch off.
