hi guys , i finally started on my 12a turbo . i bought this kit from rotaryshack a few months ago . it came with the prep carb ,turbo exhaust manifold , turbo, cut down pipe , turbo hat , and oil lines . it was supposed to be a bolt on kit , problem is i cant seem to put the turbo on the turbo manifold because the intake manifold is in the way ????? here are some pics that i took to show the forum , any suggestions or thoughts would be great .

You might need a diy exhaust header manifold plate from RB.

You can use it as a spacer. Should help with clearance issues

Is the air pump part of the turbo upgrade?

you can space the turbo away from the manifold by useing a spacer for the flange.

Try finding a flang for the turbo that you are useing and buy two gaskets that match it and boom your all set.

You need a spacer and longer exhaust studs.

Buy 2 flanges and 2 exhaust gaskets, make the spacer a seperate unit. Welds between mild steel and cast iron don't hold well.

^welds between cast and mildsteel can work but you have to take an extra step that most people dont have access to. you have to heat up the cast piece inside what is more or less a kiln, until cherry red, then the weld should hold pretty good for a long time w/ out cracking

-rotary84- have you tried perhaps installing the turbo and ex. manifold first, and then the intake after? it could be justa really tight package that needs to be put together in a certain order

a couple of flanges and gaskets and you will be fine.. or you could grind down the intake manifold till it clears....

Two choices: Space it out or Space it out.

That right there is probably your best bet. Unless you have a friend who is a professional welder, I wouldnt just go welding away on that, as stated before when welding those two types of materials it can be tricky, even to the most experienced welder.

If you do choose to make your own manifold, I would take it some where to have it welded, but thats just me.

here is a pic of the new custom manifold . it is 2 1/4" apart from each flange and pushed about an 1" towards the front of the car or radiator.

To use a S4 or even a S3 turbo without a Jspec S3 intake, you will have to space the exhaust manifold out at least an inch from the block. Then you will also have to do a little creative intake modding to get the rest of the clearance. I opted to use a SA intake on my FB. I milled off all the egr casting, and built up the bottom to mate up with the FB intake. The SA intakes look like they will flow a little better.
