12a timing pulley, were there any changes?

particularly between the 1979 and 1984 years. Fresh swap, 84 12a into a 79. kept the points distributor. I got it running, but couldn't get the timing set. I swapped the distributor based on TDC using the pulley mark on the 84 engine. I'm just wondering if there was any changes that would have effected timing. The other thing that is odd, it idles fine(fish) but my god it is running hot. not overheating, but just feels hotter than I would have expected. But there is no acceleration. boggy and dogged. I am assuming it is the timing issue.

thanks

No changes, User error. Aligned to the trailing notch instead of the leading notch. Leaving this here for future education.
