Talking 12A Swap questions

OK... Don't know what I got myself into but Im in it for the run.

Just bought this 12A from a member
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=555992

Got my 7 about 3 months ago and it has since blew a coolant seal. The prior owner "said" that the engine was street ported... but he also said it was rebuilt 40K ago and look where that got me.... less that 3K later... I'm guessing he put enough of that bars head sealant in to last long enough for a sucker like me to buy it (new rad, hoses, and coolant... hmmm....) anyhow enough of the self abuse....

Here are my questions...

If my old engine was actually street ported... would you put new coolant seals in it and put it back in if the odo says 171K and I don't know if it ever overheated...

With the new 12A I just bought would you do anything to it while its out?

If the old engine was actualy SP'd how much of a difference will it make with the non SP'd engine?

Should I be able to use the RB exhaust on my new engine if it was intended for an SP'd engine?

I already started Gunking the outside of the new (to me) engine, is painting with engine paint a bad idea because of the difference in temp as compared to boingers?

Is there an ideal thread that will list engine swap procedures / tips / advise?

Any help appreciated... Thanks in advance...

Painting will not cause heating problems, most of the builders paint thier engines. SP exhaust is fine on a stock port.

Tear the old engine down and check the internals. It may be rebuildable, if it is, build it for a spare or sell off the good parts.

Tips for install, drop the block in as it sits, bolt the carb to the intake, then to the engine, bolt on the rest of the accessories.

The engine You just bought I would change it over to the FMOC before putting it in.

Tear down the old engine, Once you pull the carb you will be able to see if it has been ported or not. Open it up and check to specs to see if it is worth building.

Darn.... Just pulled the header and my old engine was actually street ported... was hoping the seller lied. Am I going to really feel a difference in power by installing the non ported 12a?

The new has about 60K the old has 170K maybe the difference in milage will make up the power lost by not being ported....????
