Angry 12a rebuild

So...I just found out that my timing chain compartment seal is starting to leak anti-freeze...so i'm afraid that I will soon be faced with a re-build. I have a 12a, I live in Canada in B.C. and where can I get a re-build done?
I'm thinking about just opening it up myself and replacing the seal, but when I open it up I may be faced with corrosion. So what the hell am I supposed to do?

Sorry dude, your timing chain compartment seal? Do you have a V8 in there??

Cuz we dont have timing chains.

So i have no idea what you are talking about. Please Explain more of where this coolant leak it.

Couple places around. Calgary has a rotary shop, also some experienced guys around who can help you with one (what part of BC?)

Seriously tho more info on your motor like mileage and stuff and where this leak is.

What like under the water pump? Could it be as simple as replacing the gasket behind the water pump?

Id start off by reading through the FAQ's and maybe some threads with coolant leak in them.

Also learning a bit more about the rotary engine since its evident you need to learn a bit more about them.

Search for Coolant Leak, and you will get some good information.

Dont wanna sound condescending or anything but some reading up is required.

no i've replaced the water pump. it's coming from the front rotor housing seal. the closest to the front. and some stupid mechanic. I'm stupid too for believing him haha. it's been a long day... I have some pics, just check back in like...15ish mins and I'll have some pics, I just need to resize them, and I don't have a program that does it...

Do you have MSPaint?

Open them in there, then go to the top bar, click Image, then go to stretch/skew. In the first 2 boxes put in 50. See if that helps any, I set mine to 40 and it fits nicely on the forums, and you dont have to scroll left and right all the time.

If you cant resize use a third party, and turn the settings down on your camera to like m2.

Whats the mileage/condition of your engine. How much coolant leaks/how fast kinda deal.

Side note, Jeezus no way? Why has no one ever told me thats how you do it when ive asked lol

here's the pics

Here they are, and the milage of my chassis is around 301,000. I was told when I bought the car that the engine was street ported and rebuilt around 40,000kms ago... I guess that would mean I'm close to a re-build, I didn't know at the time...but ya.

It's comming from your water pump.
The only thing inside that shiny aluminum front cover is oil, your oil pump, and oil pump chain. No way coolent would come out of there as only coolent because it would immediatly be mixed with oil.
It most likely is dripping down from either your waterpump to front plate gasket (most likely) or the waterpump gasket.
I would say good news to you because your engine is most likey fine.

Shouldnt need a rebuild after 40000 kms.

Hard to tell but it almost looks like its leaking from several spots. Above the e-shaft pulley and between the front iron and cover which doesnt make sense. Is that true?

EDIT: as ways said likely your water pump, especially if you recently changed them you may have forgotten a washer or the gasket or something.

I just replaced the damn waterpump and gasket, and sealed with hi-temp orange silicone about 8 months ago. As Charlie Brown would say, "GOOD GRIEF!" and not sure what the front plate gasket is....but it's easy enough to find out...thanks!

As a side not I hope you've learned not to trust a mechanic with a rotary because 99% of the time you will know more about your car then the mechanic will.

The gasket on the top left is your waterpump to front plate gasket https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-archive-71/engine-printable-12a-gasket-templates-720003/ It will be either this one or the one you replaced 8 months ago from which the waterpump is leaking.

actually....I made a list of repairs I did (EXTREMELY HELPFUL) on my computer using excel, and when I did it, how many kms the repair was done at, and how much it cost. So I just reviewed this list and I just used the silicone sealant... so that would be the problem. GO LISTS! oh actually I did use the "cut your own" gasket stuff

-43: man, use the factory gasket !! -gotta be all of $3? scrape off the goop, get the surfaces nice and smooth, apply good ol' axle/bearing grease to BOTH metal surfaces (fingertip smear, don't need a lot). Will also help hold gasket in place as you attach impeller; torque to about 14-18 Ft/Lbs (!) -doesn't need much!! Should tighten opposing nut/bolts around circumference - I believe FSM (fac service manual) illustrates this. This is how I did mine and its been bone-dry for 2 yrs. Might want to redo thermo housing to if you gooped that...?
Our rotaries are actually ultra-simple engines and should be bullet-proof reliable! Enjoy and good luck

There's a 'weephole' under the bushing of the waterpump and coolant will leak from that hole (it's small, about 1/32") when the bushing is worn out. You might wonder how a bushing on a new waterpump could wear out in only 8 months, and the answer is that the mechanic over-tightened the v-belt, thus causing excessive side thrust and premature wear. Some mechanics are like that: "if tight is good overtightened is even better!", they say. The FSM says you should have about 16mm play with moderate force.

Also look at your water pump housing to engine gasket. I would take apart the water pump, water pump housing, and thermostat housing. Replace the WP, thermostat and all of the gaskets. Not hard to do and you are sure its right. Eazy pezy.

Check here for parts.

http://mazdatrix.com/b9wpumps.htm

Does not need an engine rebuild, in my opinion. Just a little work, as a a previous poster said, tighten up the fan belts to the FSM spec.

Also, you may have forgot to use the shims (little washer looking things). Make sure that you use these when you replace the gasket or you will have leaks! Two of them are required.

sweet dudes, and possible dudettes. that's really helpful...i really don't want to replace the oil pump housing to block gasket because i'm just lazy like that. But I supposed I'll have to.
I took it to Mazda to get a tune up, and they told me that I need to actually replace the oil pump gasket because it was leaking. So i'm just going to start a new thread asking for tips on replacing that gasket... I'm in there anyway replacing the waterpump, so why not do everything and have her working perfectly right?
