12a problem after seafoam

well i went to pick up some new plugs for my car so i figued i'd sea foam it since its been awhile, well i did the seafoam and then changed my plugs and it ran great tons of power. well going down the road it just starts spitting and sputtering like mad almost to the point where if you give it any throttle it almost dies. finally i limped it home and took out the plugs there all white and the base are copper looking color which it wasnt before, and it went through 3 galllons of gas in 20 miles,

So i'm stumped what could the freaking seafoam have caused? it was done through vacuum

Fuel leak complicated by a vacuum leak?

It would be hard to put three gallons of gas through the engine in 20 miles without very noticeable changes in your exhaust - it should smell pretty rich if that gas actually got to the engine.

The plugs indicate lean burning (more evidence the gas isn't getting the engine) and can be caused by a vacuum leak.

it sounds like you loosened up some debris in the carb and its partially clogging your primary jets. seafoam is great stuff! i would suggest a carb rebuild along with a new fuel filter. you can clean your plugs with no issues.

i would reccomend it. after your tank full of seafoam is run through (or before if you feel more comfortable) replace the fuel filter. the seafoam will loosen any buildup in the tank and send it right into the fuel filter.

driving me nuts i went to go put my carb on and i got over whelmed by it, i dont get how pouring seafoam through the carb not in the gas, would cause me to run lean.

... which is why I always say ADD IT TO THE GAS TANK.

Since you dumped it down the carb, you probably fouled your spark plugs. Hopefully a new set of plugs will put things right.

Well the first time i sea foamed like the year i got the car it worked perfect it fouled my plugs i got new ones in and it ran like a top no problems, i think this time i did it with a messed up carb already and this just made it worse, i was already leaking gas out of the side of it, so i'm gunna change the carb and see what it will do,

So I take it you do it annually? The point is to clean carbon out & clean out parts correct?

Sorry, I misread that.

But I doubt that it did anything to your carb. Think about it, it is basically a straight shot down the barrels and into the intake. So if you dumped it into the carb, they it didn't really go anywhere important inside the carb, just straight through it.

Maybe you broke off a chunk of carbon, and proceeded to eat an apex seal? Hope not.

Just pour a can into the gas tank, and you can avoid issues like this. The only time I hear of somebody having a problem after "seafoaming" their engine, is when they either dump it down the carb or suck it in through a vacuum line.

Don't put it in your oil either.

Put it in the gas tank, and then go for a drive. Or don't go for a drive. It doesn't really matter because eventually you will use that gas and the Seafoam will do it's job just fine.

putting the new carb on it fixxed it, i guess it just made the engine run alot better and freed up some hp and caused it to run lean, idk lol but the new carb is on and has made all the difference in the world

glad you got it fixed. as i thought, you loosened up gunk in the carb and it was clogging the jets. time to rebuild your spare carb!
