12A Power...Whats What?

12A Power...Whats What?
Ok, I know this is a basic question, and I know the power ratings and what all for the 12A, its just that Ive been driving my Dads BONE stock 85 GSL as a replacement for my stolen 83 GSL, and this 85 has about 220K miles on the (as far as we know) original engine and clutch (which slips sometimes, so I assume its original). Anyway, the question here is why is it that this BONE stock 85 GSL with all accessories intact, full interior, blown cats, exhaust leaks, and a dirty *** air cleaner can perform just as well as my 83 GSL did with the mods in my sig? Could low compression simply be to blame? I say they perform the same because my 83 used to do 40 to 60 in third in 5 seconds flat. The 85 does the same. The 83 was 0-60 in roughly 8 seconds, as is the 85... Im just confused as to why the "heavily modded" car with minor weight reduction was still just as fast as a stock car?

Yeah, Im not shitting you man. I was shocked when the stock 85 was pulling as hard as my 83 was "improved" to. I was thinking, damn, this 85s got some pep! Maybe my car was just shitty slow? It was slower before I got the carb on too, so its not like an extemely poorly jetted carb was to blame either...Hell, the carb made it faster, lol.

Ain't that some ****. unless the engine is ported a 12a will perform like a ,,,12a. Thats another reason i've kept my 12a as stock as a bone, except for the bonez hi-flow cat.Because for what it is, my 12a screams. no more, no less. Now my -SE is a different storie.

There are going to be cars that perform better than others brand new, and especially after 18-20 years.
My friend's Civic used to beat V6 Mustangs for some reason, even though it was stock.

I never took any compression readings on either engine, so I dont have any numbers, hence me asking if thats a possibility.
Anyway, I dont know whats up with it. I thought it to be odd. Thanks for the responses guys . Ill just chalk it up to low compression and my 83s engine being on its last leg, which is probably why it lost compression in the rear rotor...Right before it got stolen .
