12A leaking oil from almost Every gasket

Hi all. I love these 12a's. This is my 4th first gen over the last 20 years. I bought it about a month ago and were leaking oil almost everywhere, but with 180000 miles on it I guess its to be expected. I consider myself a hobbiest machanic with limited tools so no resealing a motor. One thing Iam planning to do is change the oil metering pump gasket. Just wanted to know if that is a difficult job for someone like me. Please let me know and if there are any tips anyone can pass my way. Thanks.

Changing out the OMP gasket is straight forward. Two bolts to remove. But if it's leaking everywhere then that is prolly the least of your worries. Pics would be better to help diagnose any issues you have, but if you have leaking everywhere then it may be time for a rebuild.

The gasket isn't what's leaking. The lever arm seal inside is. I don't know how to fix these because I've never tried. There are also seals at either end (o-rings) under the flat plates held on with screws. These might be leaking too.

But do the gasket swap. It gives you a chance to remove the OMP, clean it, study it, maybe venture into the other seal/o-ring swaps if you're adventurous. You might be glad you did.

atkins has a new kit too reseal the pump. its not a hard job, its actually pretty cool in the pump. i'd say its like a 4/10 on the difficulty scale.

if 1 is an oil change, and 10 is like a t2 swap

There is a thread also in fc section for rebuilding MOP. removal is pretty straight forward, it is held by 10mm bolts. Maybe the MOP hoses are loose or cracked

True, that. You can sometimes cut off the cracked part, relocated the squeeze clamp further up and push the hose back on the nipple.

When removing the oil metering pump to I have to disconnect the lower radiator hose. I see its in the way. Just wanted ti see if there is enough room to remove the pump without disconnecting the hose?

pineapple racing makes a nice, complete OMP rebuild kit that even includes the video on how to rebuild it: $25

Mechanical OMP Kit & DVD

used this - a breeze and I am no mechanic...
