More details on the car and it's history will help, i.e., mileage and maintinance. One of the most common problems, and the 1st one to check is the fuel filter.

Welcome to the forum and the Darkside. In my sig line you will find a link to the online FSMs, carb manual and other reading material. Download whatever you need.

try the air control valve. look for vac hoses not connected. if they are all hooked up it could be an internal leak. good luck

If it hasn't be done, do a full tune-up. spark plugs and wires, dizzy, timing, oil change, filters (air, fuel, oil).

Oh so it's an automatic? well no wonder it revs slow. Or do you mean with the car parked and not in gear?

OK, let's try this, a little more explaination and fewer abbreviations, i.e., what is the bird cage, the od, and ff? Does the car have an automatic? Little details like this make trouble shooting easier.

Did you check/replace the fuel filter? While this may seem silly when compared to a piston engine, it's a big problem with rotarys and our old and rusting tanks. The oem pump, when new, is barely adequate, any type of impediment to it's operation compounds the fuel issues.

While your main problem may be the carb, it's best to address all of the other potential problems before tearing the carb down for a rebuild.

Odometer was my first guess, but then when I saw somebody suggested overdrive thought maybe that makes more sense...

So at what rpm is the car idling when in park/neutral?

p.s. bird cage

ok so there goes that theory... I thought it was idling too low and when engaging a gear, the load made it go a little lower and then die.
