12A header

There is header for sale locally that was originally for a 13B but the seller says that the stud holes have been slotted for it to fit on a 12A. Now the question, does anyone see if this set-up wouldn't work or would seriously effect how much performance out of it? Kepp in mind I'm going from stock exhaust.
Thanks,
Grant

stud holes have been slotted? i wouldn't think that's a great idea... what if the header moves around? going to headers should give you more power over the stock exhaust, but you'd need to get rid of the cats to see real improvement. racingbeat sells headers that add about 15-20 horses. who made those headers?

Not as bad as the guy I saw who bent the engine studs to get his pacesetter to fit.
I would recommend looking into a cat replacement pipe, its $110 last time I checked and a very economical alternative to a header; especially one you can't be sure will fit correctly. Plus its well built. www.racingbeat.com

shouldn't work. even if it bolts up. the 13b has wider chambers than the 12a, so the ports wont match up right. if they did, everyone would have turbos on there 12a's. that would be nice.

It's a RB header and I'm gonna go have a look at it today. Seems to me that it might work as long as the headers on these cars aren't port matched perfectly.

I just realized that if I run into big problems I can always take a bit out of the center of the flange and it'll work fine, or I can get a new flange welded on there. Both of those options are cheaper for me since I'm in Canada and the shipping is mental compared to buying locally.

P.S. I'll probably buy it and just run it for the time being, it's going for $150 Canadian so it's less than half of a new one. We'll just see about the condition thats all.

It's different for turbos. With the 13b turbo manifold, you CAN grind the ports inward too so it matches up and works perfect. But with headers, it's just 2 tubes coming off instead of a big block so you can only grind the bolt holes.

Well I got it and it bolts up fine. We even measured the openings and they are perfect because the header primaries are much larger than my exhaust ports. Should be a bunch of fun with a nice long-primary system on there. I'm gonna get it fab'd up with glasspacks on each one and when I blow out the packing I'll just cut them open and repack with stainless steel wool. I am however gonna use a little weld to reinforce where the stud-slots are because it looks a little weak, although it probably isn't. That and I like projects.
