12a Gearbox won't select 1st or 2nd

Hi guys

Been a while since I've been on this site, been a while since I've driven my car!

Long story short, did a long drive for the first time in a while and went to change from 3rd to 2nd after some open road driving in 4th/5th for a couple of hours, and there was nothing there!? Then went to select 1st and the same, nothing. It was as if it didn't want to click into gear.

So nursed it home using 3rd and eventually a tow when I got into town, as starting with a solid center clutch from stationary in 3rd at the lights did not appeal to me.

So I can select all gears and reverse, apart from 1st and 2nd. It didn't make any noises, hasn't lost any oil or clutch fluid.

Is it a case of making some adjustments, or is it time for a new box??

There's some very knowledgeable folk on this site so any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers

It could be that the internal gear selector rods got misaligned.

I had this exact thing happen to me about a year ago. I pulled my trans apart and found the bolt for the 1st/2nd shift fork had come loose and popped out.

May or may not be the same problem but the lack of bad noises is a good sign. Your best bet is to pull the trans and start digging.

Great yeah I think the fact that there's no noises as you mentioned is good.

I'm going to get it taken to CBR as they are local and have the gear and the know how, but thanks for the info guys

Yeah I wish I had my own shed and tools still to tinker away at it (car is in storage), but at this stage its easier to go to a workshop even though $$$.....oh well.

Hopefully I'll get to take some pics of whats at their workshop and post them up!

What suspension setup are you running? That height looks really good on your car!

Its all custom fronts sa22c struts with machined down tops and camber/castor plates, FC brakes with custom brackets, new bushes etc etc spacer plates

Rear is S2 (sa?) lsd and bushes, angel grinder to the coils, think they were 600kg/m springs or something can't remember, cut about 2 coils off them

Thinking about chucking some 16' RS5's on the front with smaller tires and see how the rake looks then
