So i didn't even want to post this but i only found one post relevant to my question i guess.... So lets just explain how this all happend. One winter day i pulled out of my drive way through a snow mound like a dumb a** with out warming the car up and the coolant hose below the throttle body blew... or formed a crack and leaked horribly.... i drove on it for a little it never over heated. Slowly it didnt want to start it kept getting harder and harder to even start.... and eventually the car would only sit there and rev at 3000 rpm and when you let go of the gas it acted like the gas was being pressed so you couldn't decelerate... Now its at the point to were it will crank start for .1 second then die....

Now i tow started it let it run for mabye 1 hour ... it smoked horrible at first then stopped but i assumed it was from me trying to just get it to crank over still was revving to 3 grand.... thought everythig would be good

But now its still just turning over trying to start and dieing... i replaced the plugs as well...

I feel horrible for posting this casue there is probley a thread witht he same exact situation but i could not find any.

OK, a lot of things don't make any sense here. I will try to weed through this.

3000 RPM idle - this can ONLY be caused by the throttle body being stuck open. Something is stuck there.

"drove in a snow mound and blew a throttle body hose" - this makes absolutely no sense. Doing one cannot cause the other.

To be honest, it sounds like you're in WAY over your head. You need to find a shop that can work on the car and get it running right.

yes i replaced the hose it poped when i blew through the snow mound it was like 2 feet high in my drive way.. it was leaking so i dont know if you want to say it popped or blew... etc.... and yes it is idling at 3000... but it is acting like you said the throttle body open

- pure white smoke but went away even after driving only on the initial start up after the tow start.

 

Pure white smoke means coolant seals went. Time for a rebuild.

Did you ever replace the bad coolant hose or just the spark plugs? It sounds like you could have a huge vac leak.

What did the spark plugs look like when you changed them?
Pull the EGI fuse, turn the car over a few times, and then pull the plugs. See if any are wet with coolant?

I agree it sounds like a coolant seal went. Most likely the car had underlying problems and they all surfaced at once. Hitting the snow bank didn't help. Do you have any pictures of the engine bay? I would pressure test the coolant system and go from there. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, bring the car to a competent rotary mechanic. If it does indeed need a rebuild there are a handful of reputable builders on here. Or you could always send me the car. I get them from all over the country.

 

The coolant hose on the throttle body is at the REAR of the engine bay.

How did the front nose cone of the car hitting a snow mound, cause a small coolant hose 3 feet away, connected to a completely different system, to blow? That makes absolutely no sense.

That's like saying "A bird landed on my side mirror, so my transmission then blew up as a result"

Sounds to me like:

1. You hit a snow mound. Isolated bad driving judgement but that's all. Time to let that go.

2. Sounds as if the car had underlying coolant system issues and by coincidence, they happened to surface on the same day, but are unconnected in nature.

3. You continued driving with the cooling system compromised- that was your fatal mistake above all else. You say it "never overheated" BUT you need to be aware that the stock temp gauge is very slow to respond and it lies to the driver badly. So its possible it was actually overheating and you kept driving it. These cars are incredibly sensitive to overheating.

4. From the sounds of the no-start issues, the white smoke vapor, etc, it sounds like it's killed the coolant seals due to overheating, and this came about because the coolant system sounds like it was not up to scratch, or required work it didn't get.

This all points to rebuild engine time, unfortunately. It sounds like a cooling system failure was imminent, and all it took was the one throttle body hose to make it begin, but the fatal error was to keep driving. I would have stopped immediately, assessed the split hose and made the call to stop driving til it was rectified.

 

MAP sensor hooked up correctly? (both vacuum line & electrical connector)
thats near the throttle body coolant hose so you could have knocked it off, or broken/cracked a fragile old hose while messing with that

 

Well.... i dont realy know what to say... There could be so many things wrong and honestly i will probley be shipping the car out to someone to look at im in ohio the only close shop i think is defined auto works unless someone else knows... even if it doesn't need a rebuild i dont know were to begin cause there is a cooling issue that caused the hose to pop in the first place.

 

I would say thats the best thing you can do.

 

Blown coolant seals. Do a lot of reading/research on these cars, the stock cooling system and overheating are the Achilles Heel of the rotary. Once the cooling and other reliability mods are done it's a wonderful car to drive, dependable too!!!

It sounds like a coolant seal for sure and when you replaced the rear coolant line you didnt hook something back up or broke another line that you didnt notice. If you are in Ohio send it over to Elite Rotary in Chicago, they are awesome!
