AB 12a fuel pump upgrade

I am upgrading my fuel pump on my SA and looking at options. I am running the Carter 7lb on my FB and am happy with the performance however I was never 100% satisified with the installation. I am looking for a pump which will perform as well but give a cleaner install. I see some are using the Mallory 4070 which looks a little more compact than the Carter. The inline style pumps would provide a clean installation near the stock location. I also see some are using a Walbro 255lph with a mallory 4309 high pressure fuel regulator. Anyone have experience with an inline pump? Looking for some input. ( I will be running a Sterling Nikki)
Cheers!

I run a Mallory Comp 70. It's not an inline pump, and I don't know how much "cleaner" the install will be compared to your carter (probably not much) but it's a great pump. I'm running it with my Sterling and a Holley 1-4psi FPR. On the plus side it's practically silent too. I had to bolt mine to the underside of the bin-area metal because it's supposed to be as close to upright as possible...

Good luck finding one with a clean install, let us know what you find.

I'm running a Carter with my Sterling and the install was pretty straight forward and it's tidy. How do you have yours mounted? Did you put it on the frame rail or attached to the bottom of the storage bins?

just how bad is the install of this pump? is it the overall design of the pump u dislike? i can understand the concern if the install was visible to everyone but it's under the car out of site. maybe ur is big and bulky and hangs down under the car and might get knocked off?

I installed my Carter inside the frame rail just forward of the axle houseing. Because the pumps porting is on the top side of the pump it is difficult to mount it high unless you use 90 degree fittings which restrict the flow. So I was hoping to find a pump a little more compact. I'm thinking I may try the Mallory as the porting is on the bottom which would allow it to be mounted at the same location inside the frame rail but pushed up higher.

interesting. i've never seen what the carter pumps look like but all others i've seen the IN and OUT of the pump was straight thru flow. i'm using a 6lb facet pump and have been for many yrs. the best thing is u don't hear it like some of the other aftermarket pumps. it's the same style as the factory pump. in ur case, u'd have to add a regulator to bring the pressure back down to like 2-3 for the stock carb.

If there is any problem with the Carters it's that they are quite loud, even mounted on the frame rail they buzz loudly enough for me to hear it distinctly at idle. Fortunately there's no guesswork if it quits on me. Either it's buzzing, thus working, or it's not and not.

No need to worry about using 90* fittings, 70 lph is more than enough to keep the pressure up. The gerotor pumps like the Mallory are much quieter than the Carter or Holley. Move the cut and check valve forward on the frame rail and you can mount your pump up nice and high. You can use an old mouse pad or inner tube rubber to further isolate and deaden any sound vibrations.

Micheal its noisy for sure. I had dual facets before this but they started
showing their age during the B3R mountain run so grabbed a Carter and
Holley FPR and mounted it up. The thing about the Carter is its in/out is
on the top of the can and the can has to be upright to function properly.
Its a challenge on a 1st gen to get it mounted right but it tucks up there
right over the stock filter on the frame rail. I need to remount mine with
some rubbe isolation to quiet it down but it works great. Heres a pic:
