12a front cover interchangeability

Hi All-
Q: have access to 84-85 12a front cover - will it match up to 80 12a block?
both use a FMOC....
Any diffs to be worried about? Like engine mount bracket, etc.
Thanks!

only difference is that the 84-85 cover has the castings for the turbo oil drain.

nope, u wont need to do anything. the area just wont be drilled/tapped for the return. but now knowing this cover has this provision, i'll be using one if i ever go turbo.

Interesting. I never noticed that. First picture is GSLSE cover on the left and what I believe is an 84 12A cover on the right. Second picture is an early 12A cover or maybe an RX-4.

There's a small splash guard on the TurboII blocks mounted directly behind that hole. It's super simple to mount, I think it uses two 10mm nuts that hold the oil pump in place. Without it you'd be splashing hot turbo return oil all over you oil pump. Mazda did put it there for a reason.

they only did that on the s4's, which makes it kinda odd
