Question 12a endplay?

I have acquired an engine from a 1985 RX7 that I am going to use in another application.
I pulled the engine from a car at the junk yard; it appears to have good compression and is clean with almost no oil leaks.
The spark plugs look good and so did the oil. When I found the engine it had no flywheel or rear counter weight (it was in an automatic) I had another 85 RX7 that I purchased complete, it had a cracked block and completely rust frozen rear rotor (it was a manual transmission).
I have removed the flywheel and transmission along with the radiator and cooling system from the car and mounted them in a small frame made from a metal shipping crate.
I installed the flywheel onto the good engine and was going to mount the engine to the trans to test fire it,
I checked the end-play after the flywheel was installed and found it to be .0045 in. the book states the play should be between .0016 in. and .0028 in. with the max play at .0035 in.

Now to my question.

Would it hurt the engine to test fire it with this much endplay?

I am not going to be engaging the clutch or applying any pressure to the flywheel during the test firing other than the pressure applied by the starter.

I would like to make sure the engine runs before I spend anymore money on it.

Thanks.

Is the 19mm front pulley nut torqued to 80-90 ft lbs? That makes a difference.

12a endplay

I checked the front pulley bolt torque and it appears to be in excess of 100 lbs.

If I grab the flywheel while the engine is on the stand and I push in and pull out I can hear it Nock on the way in and on the way out .

another question i have is "can macihine shims be used with the spacer to take up the slack?"
