12A dropping oil pressure

I've never been on a forum and couldnt get the archive search to work, it said failed search for a couple of seconds and the I got a different thread.

120K miles, all original engine from 84. Always had 20-30 lbs pressure at idle and 60 at 3000rpm. Last drive I have 30lbs that did go to 60 and this AM nearly 0 after unattended warmup (how stupid), then up to 50 and dropped to 30 within 1 mile. I think I have a great mechanic but would like to learn a little on my own, but don't know enough about engines to start to guess. Wish I could figure out the search engine for the archives. Thanks for any help.

Random levels like that would indicate the gauge is messed up. The connection for the sensor is probably just dirty. Not sure where it is though, someone else will know.

On my previous RX, an '82, I got a consistant 5kg/cm2 when crusing and 6.5 to 7 kg/cm2 when accelerating/revving hard. At idle, it tended to hover at 2kg/cm2. I don't know how that works out to psi, but there you go. My current '79 doesn't have a oil pressure gauge, so I guess I'll have to trust that everything is working smoothly under there.

Dirty sending unit

The last oil change was done by a guy that let the oil run out of the filter and over the oil pressure sending unit right below it. I cleaned the connection and all is well.
