12a Double pulley on the cheap!!!!

Well I was really sick of always having to tighten my belt cause of that dang belt always stretching. And I remembered a while back I heard someone say that if you take the airpump off that at high rmp the belt will slip on the water pump, causing a possibly overheated engine. Since we own an alternator and starter repair shop we had a double pully that fits right on!!! And get this, it's off of an old caravan!!!!! lol
Total time............ 10 mins.
Total cost for me..... $0.00
You could pick up one of these pulleys dirt cheap at a wrecking yard. I love racing beat but their pulley is way overpriced, I got mine for free. Heres a video and a pic. Tell me what ya think!!!
Eric

It's not the best quality........ sorry
And it's not very long either, this was with my camera so it won't take long videos....

What year/ model caravan we talking here?

Thats good info.

You can go to pullapart and get these for around 4 bucks.

Is that a 1st gen alternator, the 55 amp one? I already have the double pulley but I bet theres folks on here that would like to know the details.

It's off an 84 dodge caravan 2.6L mitsubishi engine. It came off a 75 amp mitsubishi alt. And yes thats the original alternator. I was gonna just put the 75 amp alt. on but it wouldn't fit...... lol

Any tricks to pulling it off? Can I do it in a junk yard if I have a small puller on me?

We checked the charging at idle and it was great! Then again it was idling at about 1800 rpm!!! lol
About the pulling off in the junk yard.......... I don't know, we had a couple on our stock shelves so I just picked one!!! I would just buy the whole 75 amp. alt. All you have to do is do a little grinding on the inside of the alt. where it mounts. I just stuck with the stock. I just thought this would be a cool thing to put on the site!!!

I once had a dual sheave pulley. I found that even it would slip both belts if the fan clutch is hosed. I sold the dual sheave and have had no problems. If the clutch is healthy, no slippage. If not, get a new one or go electric. If those options don't gel for you, get a yoohoo belt.

yeah I have that same damn problem with that belt. It's like I have to tighten it back up every so often, Im sick of hearing it squeel at high rpm. I got it tuned up since then and it works great but ill have to see about that if it does it again.

Yeah with the dual belt pulley and my e-fan I never have any problems with slippage or belt squeal. And a little bit of "belt dressing" goes a long way (they have it at the parts store, it's the weirdest substance in the world... get this it "Prevents Belt Slippage" but also "Lubricates for Longer Belt Life"... how's that possible?)

The one thing I want to find is a dual-belt pulley from a junkyard that would work on an FD alternator!

Aparently the FC-to-FB pulleys that are sold don't work on the FD alts from what I've heard (though I bought one from banzaitoyota anyway, we'll see how it works when the car comes out this weekend).

Which reminds me, I need to get the voltage regulator in my alt fixed.... got a slow drain when the car's off.
