Anyone know where i can find a set of 1 piece STEEL apex seals for my 12a bridgeport?. I know they make carbon ones but the 20,000mile lifespan doesnt really thrill me!. Do they even make them in steel?.ThAnKs!.

I think you mean iron seals. Steel would be kinda rough on the rotor housings.

I am curious about this too. But I don't think they are avaliable because the iron might not expand right or something. Also they figure if your bridge, your going to run more than 9k so you want carbon anyways. but they are wrong there are still some of us out here who have great faith in the iron seals. I am useing iron in my p port.

Yeah I don't see the point either... 1 piece means you have to make the seals fit "short" so they don't bind when they expand, this means poorer low RPM compression just like a carbon seal, but since they're still heavy they are RPM limited just like a stock iron seal.

Hurleys are supposed to last longer (about 60k miles) but they're also supposed to do a real number on the rotor housings because of their poor friction properties. (rotor housings end up wearing scuffed instead of staying shiny) If you want revs then carbons are really your best bet, plus they're cheaper too!

Hurley Seals

Hey peejay, tell me about the Hurley seals... I was thinking about their Duplex seals for my rebuild next year, but nobody seems to know much about 'em...

Hunt around in the general Q&A, single turbo, and performance mods sections... I'm still learning about them myself. I'm thinking that the lower lifespan sould be a good tradeoff for the ability to run more RPM than stock irons.

I've also heard that 1-piece seals are only needed if you bridge port so large that you need to relieve the rotor housings. Plenty of people using 2pc seals with a half-bridge (only the end plates are bridged and relieved) and the apex seals oriented so the corner piece rubs against the center plate. I've also heard )same source) that if you don't relieve the housing you can run a bridge with the corner piece, but that still strikes me as kinda iffy. (Then again I haven't done it... yet)

The Hurleys also seem to have a problem with large exhaust ports... as you make the exhaust port wider, there's less metal supporting the apex seal, because the break between the two is closer to the middle than the ends.
