Audio Balance/Fader Thingy...

Any of you put something else here if you have an after market system? I was personally thinking something like an air fuel gauge or something...just put a panel with a circle cut in it and a gauge in the hole and, voila! Is this possible? Or maybe moving my cigarette lighter there when I put my starter button in? I dunno, I just dont like the "mini-shifter" because I have an after market stereo that doesnt use it and theres no reason for it to be there anymore. I just dont want to take it out and leave a panel over it, that might look funny...Any ideas?

get rid of it

TJ, I got rid of my "joy stick" just by prying out the plastic surrounding from the center console, and replacing it with a non EQ equipped type one from another car (it has a little dish instead of the joystick). Assuming you have power windows, you'll also have to pop the switches out of the old and plug in to the new piece. I also had to paint my new part to match, but it looks fine. Just be careful not to break the hold down clips on the new piece when removing from the donor car or installing.

Good idea, I need to replace that part anyway because my center console box thingy's lid has broken and the base is cracked so it sits crooked. So when I go ill just get everything from the gearshift back and hope it fits. Luckily there is a junkyard about 3 blocks from my house that has 5 RX-7's in it, only one has the same interior as mine so I have to stock up on parts when I have the chance , but I can just snag a console from there.

Oh...Did the power window switches just pop in, or did you have to cut those holes?

I took the audio stick mechanism out, replaced it with a small blinking LED (with my friend epoxy) and wired a switch inside the center console bin. When I leave the car, I pop it on and it appears to be an alarm. Looks good in that location, is highly visible, and is overall a good deterent. I polished off the Left, Right, Front, Back markings on the original black stick housing and you'd never know it wasn't supposed to be there.

no cutting required...

Oh...Did the power window switches just pop in, or did you have to cut those holes?
There are two removable caps on this part for nonpower window cars (at least for 84-85 models) that pop out, so the power window switches can fit back in like they were meant to be there in the first place.

Ah it aint that expensive, I think its like a little around 200 for it... Well of course you have to have multiple amps etc.

My 85, has a Pioner DehP930, DSP9200 EQ, an aol PPI Pro MOS 250, ADS 4 channel amp, 2 12" JL W6's. And about 6 other speakers in various places. But when I doa ll the motor stuff Im gonan do, Its coming out. Too much weight... Thanks for the compliement tho

Use the joystick for your missile firing control. Haven't you guys seen the 2nd gen with the missile and paint ball gun?

HAHA!! No, I must have missed that one... I do however know a friend of mine that mounted rocket launchers in the grill of his Ford Econoline van. He uses those Estes model rocket engines with the 6 volt(?) ignitors and a switch in the dash. Its pretty cool One time we were going up to Alderwood Mall, and we shot one of those bad boys of on the freeway and we were actually paceing it down the road for a while (a couple seconds)...Talk about weird. Oh well
