[Tires]: Will they fit (searched...)?

I have been searching for the last 30 days or so, and haven't found anyone with my exact situation, so here it goes:

Chassis: 1985 GS.
--No signs of accident damage (frame rails are straight, body panel gaps are consistent, etc.)

Suspension:
1982 front spindles
1982 GSL LSD rear axle
Racing beat springs
Front struts: Tokico Illuminas
Rear shocks: Tokico Blues

Wheels:
Brand: Enkei
Model: 92
Size: 15x7
Bolt pattern (not that it matters for fitment...): 4x110
Offset: +7
Color (again, not critical for fitment, but fun anyway ): Gold

Tires that I want to purchase:
Make: Bridgestone
Model: Potenza
Submodel: RE11
Size: 205/50R15

Tire Specs:
Section width: 8.4"
Tread width: 7.6"
Overall diameter: 23.1"

I'm inclined to think that these will fit. I had a set of 92's with a 0 offset, and ran 195/50R15 Potenze RE910's no problem. No rub at any point in the suspension's travel/steering's throw. I am thinking that the extra 7mm of offset will allow me to add another 10mm of tire width (as it will only intrude an extra 5mm toward the spring).

Is my logic sound, and these tires will fit, or is it flawed and I should go with the 195/50R15's?

Thanks

-Jim

I would think that even with 215s on there, you should be fine. 205s should fit easily, but again that's just a guess. 215s might interfere with the spring if you don't have coilovers though.

Good luck.

P.S. Have you signe up for the race on May 8th/9th yet? Check the Midwest section, sticky thread at the top for more details.

I'm afraid that 215's will interfere with my springs, as I don't have coilovers.

And I have not signed up (yet).

I don't think you should have a problem. Worst case scenario you might have to roll the fender, or if that's too much trouble you can sell the wheels to me.

This isn't happening . It took me 2 years of on-and-off searching to find these. I'm keeping them for a while.

Anyone else have an opinion?

I think you'll be fine with 205's on a 7 inch wheel. With the RB springs you may have a little rubbing when turning hard, but unless your trying to kill yourself it shouldn't be an issue. Maybe just a fender roll up front if you have any problems.

A fender roll is needed. I'm assuming that I can do this carefully with a hammer and dolly (dolly wrapped in old towel to not destroy paint...)?

Any pictures of a rolled fender (the actual rolled part)? I'm searching today at work...

i have the same wheels, with 205/50/15's there was TONS of room. my car is just under 24" from floor to the top of the wheel well, its not very low.

with the 225/45/15's its a little tight in the rear, i did push up the left fender lip a little. in the front i've got camber plates, so the tops of the tires tuck, and theres tons of room.

with the 7 offset, the wheels are pushed OUT, so there is TONS of room on the inside

Most guys use a baseball bat I think. Heat the paint up first with a heat gun to make it flexible, otherwise it may crack/peel. Bat goes between tire and fender, and use it like a pry-bar.

Tons of room on the inside, but they stick out and get caught on my fenders during hard cornering, hence the need for a fender roll.

I'm afraid that I won't be gentle enough with prying on my fenders (I'm not the most gentle person in the world...). With the hammer and dolly, I can control how much force I put into the fender lip, thus minimizing the damage to the paint.

I am planning on a heat gun, and then hitting the paint chips with POR15 and some rubberized undercoater. I will hopefully have a how-to up this weekend.

Me trying to be gentle ends up like this:

its funny they are so different ive even got more tire, but maybe mine is higher than yours?

i just took a rubber hammer and bent the rear fender lip from horizontal to slightly pointing up, and its fine.

front is no problem, ive got camber plates
