The bottom plate of the console is held in with clips. Just pull up at the back end of near the coin holder lower left corner of the picture in your post.

Good luck

PULL HARDER. The two screws that you show in your picture have already been loosened, and those are the only ones that you need to worry about. There are metal clips on the underside near the ashtray that hold this plastic piece in place.

Try grasping at the trailing edge of the gearshift boot where you can get your hand under the plastic piece, and pull upward - straight up. It should come up then, and open like a hood, hinged at the front. From there, you can remove the boot and secure the new boot to the underside. HTH,

Yeah, take out the two screws, and then pull up on the back end of the plastic piece... it's just held in with clips, and once you pull the back end up, it should come out no problem. I think I need new clips in my '79, 'cause mine comes out no problem whatsoever, I just grab the coin slots and pull up lightly.

It's one thing to have a nice RX-7

It's even better to have one of the only ones in your country!!!
