$2700 - Suspension or Engine ?

I have about $2700 to work on my car this summer. The car won't be finished and so at the end of the summer it will have to sit in my garage till next summer when I have more money to finish it.

I have been planning to build the engine this summer, but I'm not so sure now. I would only be able to afford the long block (4 Port 13B SP) so I probably wouldn't be able to start it. Then there's the problem of storage. I would have to go turn it over every day, but I won't be here (College). If I did build it now I don't want to have any starting/running problems next summer from it sitting.

Now I'm thinking about working on the suspension, brakes, and wheels&tires instead, since it doesnt matter if it sits till next summer. I'm going to be installing alot of gforce parts - Panhard, Tri link, etc. I think the suspension will cost about $1500. A few hundred for brake upgrades, and the rest for wheels (aluminum 8lb 13s) and some cheap temporary tires. Then I could probably paint the engine bay and tinker with some low cost things, organize wires, etc. That way I can bring it down off the jack stands, finally. Then next summer it will be all ready for me to drop my engine in. What do you guys think?

2700 is plenty to do both engine and suspension.

and sitting for a few months isn't going to hurt anything.

not my engine lol.
new rotor housings $900
porting $500
lapping $240
seals $1100

thats just over 2700 right there and then you have accessories like a carb, water pump, etc etc. and thats just the engine

i could port myself, but ive never done it before so i dunno....

and i could have used rotor housings, but would like this motor to last a while. used SE rotor housings in good condition are hard to find.

What kind of seals cost $1100?

I also wasn't thinking about new rotor housings. I'm sure you could find some good used ones.

Anyway good luck.

Only if you don't turn the engine on.

Dude....let me be the first to point you here ----> Atkins Rotary

You should be able to do both an engine and suspension...plus...porting yourself aint so bad...i did it with a dremel, carbide bit, and a little bit of research (www.nopistons.com)

anywho...if nothing else...it should GREATLY cut your cost of rebuild...ALSO...if you are doing a 13b...you should probably check out Rotary Aviation...they have the cheapest 13b seals etc...

HOPE THE BEST FOR YA!

I'd do the suspension first because it can sit for a while without too many issues as long as the car is stored well, engines don't like it. Once your done with the suspension take the remaining money and build the engine with it slowly taking your time. Also if the body needs work do it while the suspension is off.
