Is it worth it?

Hey guys, Just inquiring as to whether or not this is a decent buy or not.

I've found a 13B Turbo 2 motor out of the 2nd gen RX and tranny for 800$ including wire harness and ECU etc.. He said the motor ran good and was apparently rebuilt. odometer read 300K. Regardless of condition as long as this motor isn't completely fucked is it worth the money? Also he does have entire driveline that he's offered for $1000 which is the better deal considering the mileage? My 83's rear end seems to be in good working order. I'll post pictures later when he sends me them

you can't put the TII rear end in the FB. Hook up a battery and run a compression test, and as long as it comes back good, i'd say that $800 for motor/trans is a good deal.

The rear end wont fit in my 83?, what about my existing driveshaft will that fit into the turbos tranny?.. How would I run the compression test on an engine thats taken out of the vehicle?.. might be a noob question I dunno. I'm fairly technically minded I just don't have a lot of experience. I don't believe the rebuild was documented so It's just his word. Also I was looking at Racing Beats stock rebuild kit, would that be a worthy investment? Just some general links or information on this kind of swap would be useful, I've looked around on the site but a lot of stuff ends up being dead links, thanks.

Its a fair question. Firstly good to have the engine secured, ..make sure the starter is attached. Use a batter or booster cables and attach to ground and power on the starter. Connect the signal wires so that the starter engages. Will cause the engine to turn over so you can take your compression test.

Bit more difficult that if its attached and kind of ghetto but definetly worth it

dunno..... it looks really well used....i'd want some compression numbers before making a deposit or committing to the purchase. note the oil seepage on the turbo oil return, an indication of a leaking omp... note the missing oil pan. the turbo appears pretty rough...

It all depends on how much budget you have, cash flow, time and tools etc. You have to get new housing probably with that many miles. I would pass unless you really need that type and have nice cash to throw at it.

T2 swap is pretty in depth. just off the top of my head

-new trans mounts position
-re wire the car
-change front cover
-change to a gsl se gas tank
-change to a diff fuel pump such as a 255
-custom driveshaft made

and probably a lot more, I would not start without willing to throw at LEAST 5k into it right away
