It may not be covered in the FSM, I will look when I get home and see. The cooler is not known by any other name as far as I know.

I do not have a FSM for your model, but in my '79 all it shows about the oil cooler is how to check the oil thermo valve. Does not tell how to remove or install. I am not exactly familiar with how the '83 cooler is situated so someone with first hand knowledge will have to chime in.

the 1980 FSM does not show how to remove the oil cooler. it just states how to check it for cracks and describes the removal and replacement of the oil bypass valve in the oil cooler. if you want to know how to remove the oil cooler i can tell you how..very simple.. drain the coolant from the radiator, remove the fan, fan shroud, radiator, radiator upper and side panels and you will see the oil cooler and lines plain as day. the only hiccup would be if your 7 has a/c and then you will be fighting around the condensor.

looking from the underneath of the car it seems all i have to do is remove the under panel and its right there. i think i just want to replace the main oil long oil line and replace the o ring and washer and throw it back on to see if that stops the small leak.

i can have the car on and stationary all day and there will be no leaks but once i do some aggressive driving there would be some leakage on the engine bay bottom panel coming from one of those bungs...

More than likely one of the bungs has a hairline crack. This is pretty common and the cooler must be removed and taken to a shop to be welded and pressure tested. This is a good time to replace both oil cooler lines.

+1. the cooler is cracked. take it to a shop that can weld aluminum and have them weld it up.

+2, i've had to repair several of these over the years. Doesn't cost a whole lot of money, and like the others said - a good time to get some stainless hoses and replace all the crush washers, as well as give the whole thing a good cleaning.

Recommend you get NEW oil cooler support brackets. These have a rubber component that will be severely cracked by now. Unique to 78-80 RX7, about $40 for the pair....
