Thanks. Yes the SEM Burgundy. I was tentative about using it on the rubbery parts like the horn button and the stick shift **** but it seems to work there as well as on the Vinyl and plastic parts.

I don't much like the shiny Armorall look. But you are right in that it looks like that only not slimy.

And because I fixed one horn button I noticed that the one on the GSL-SE had at least one loose screw so I did that one too although I didn't have to paint it as it is the black interior. I noticed that the wipers are not working now on this car. Its always something!

For those who have not seen what the horn switch looks like without the cover here is a photo.

Panel #2 is about 90% done, after 16 hours straight-ahead work. Not free tomorrow, but with a little luck Monday night will see it done and I'll start installing the panels and seats.

Just a little luck is all I need now - - not like Friday night when my main light fixture in the garage cracked and fell apart. Installed a new one this AM.

Well, I haven't checked in for a while.

Changed the brake pads on the rear drums. This recovered the pedal completely. Got pads for the front calipers at the same time, but chicken-****** out from unfamiliar territory that doesn't match the book (and I don't have special compression tool and O'Reilly standard tool is too big). A week after the brakes pedal recovery, someone called to buy her. They had held on to the ad since X-mas. I agreed to a test drive. A NO SHOW! Last week we tore up the 4-Sale sign.

Got a mismatched set of + wheels for $50 from craigslisting. Turned out to be the guy who originally sold me Smooth. I'm hoping they will polish out similarly. Just hope they're all the same alloy.. I'll post pics. My hubby loves to polish mags, and I'm gonna let him.

For mothers' day I got 2 u-joint spiders and a helping hand. Friday I came home to Smooth sitting up on ramps and jack stands and a package from Rock Auto. I feel quite fortunate. Saturday was great weather and after I pulled the drive shaft we worked well together when we weren't arguing. Now the windows no longer chatter and the ride is incredibly smoother (it had just reached the point when engaging drive or reverse it went clunk)...

Now it's painfully obvious that the front bushings need replacing.

Peel the onion.

You can use a C clamp and piece of wood or old pad to compress the front caliper. The rear require the tool so that it can be twisted in. The rear tool can be had at Harbor Freight for $5.

I stared at mine all morning wishing I could drive it while I searched the online junkyards for the drivers side complete strut assembly, dammit parts are getting harder to find for thesr cars. Wish I was a machinist I would jus make the partd and be done with it

Thanks. I've never handled caliper brakes. Everything says they're MUCH EASIER to replace the pads than for the drums... still strange to me. There's lots of nice weather coming up to get brave.

I haven't done a thing except collect parts. :/
Currently I'm restoring a set of louvers.

Ms. DIY,
Disk brakes are way easier to deal with than drum brakes. As KansasCityREPU states, you won't need any special tools since you only have front calipers to deal with. A c-clamp is all I used. I did all four calipers and it wasn't hard. The only fiddly bit was getting the rear caliper pistons screwed back in without the special tool. I used a big flat-blade screwdriver. It worked, but wasn't ideal.

I haven't done a thing except collect parts. :/
Currently I'm restoring a set of louvers.
Collecting parts counts in my book. So does restoring parts.

Yesterday, I went to Canepa Motorsports in Scotts Valley, CA and picked up a real IMSA Daytona spoiler that had apparently been sitting in their mold room for a long time. Why they had an RX-7 wing, I can't answer. The guy I was buying it from was helping a customer so another employee showed me the wing. I asked him why it was at Canepa and he shrugged and said he didn't know and that he wasn't in to Japanese cars, in a sort of disdainful way. I resisted the urge to remind him that this wing was donned by the very Japanese cars that whooped @ss in the GTU class IMSA races in the 80s.

Today, the guy that bought my old EG Civic decided he really needed money more than he needed the Bride Zeta II Neos racing bucket that came with the car. I picked it up from him, so now I'll be on the lookout for some rails for the FB.

This evening, I took the FB down to the Toyota dealer where my friend works and he did a much-needed alignment on her. Toned down the negative camber a bit, fixed the totally screwed up caster and toe. Noted with amusement that the rear axle actually had a slight amount of negative camber.

3rd down and inches; the second door panel is only waiting on installation of the map pocket and the chrome stripe. I finished sewing the new pocket cover last night about 10pm. Then up at 5am to get ready for work today.

Tonight I have to work at the wife's store (duty before glory) so that leaves Wed night and Thursday to get the seats assembled, the interior installed, and do all other pre-roadtrip/pre-show preparation.

Originally intended to get a front-end alignment on Thursday, but that may need to wait now. As will recovering the aft-of-the-door side panels to match the new upholstery scheme.

lol, yeah those guys have a funny attitude, you can vintage race a 2013 Porsche, but a 1979 Rx7 isn't old enough....

DivinDriver: Those door panels are beautiful! I've got a set of spare door cardboard panels, I may just do something similar.

Yesterday I:

Pulled the rear axles and diff. The axles need new bearings and the diff is a stinky open unit that will be replaced with a sexy limited slip.

Today I will:

Pull the transmission and install a new clutch and mount
Hopefully have enough time and energy to reinstall the tranny, driveshaft, axles and diff.

Still left on the to-do list:

Figure out what's causing the throttle to stick partially open after flooring it. Something is binding in the linkage but I haven't figured it out yet. A few quick taps of the pedal will unstick things, but it's damn annoying.
Fix the rear defrost. The drivers-side pin broke free of the glass. I've got one of those repair kits that will hopefully get it working again.
Install a GSL stereo: Thanks to wahootee, I've got a three-piece GSL stereo and two Clarion amps to install to give the old girl a nice factory look. The PO hacked the center radio surround to bits to install a cheap-o Kenwood deck and I am on a mission to restore the surround and radio to (almost) period-correctness.
Install my new RB vinyl seatcover replacements. I'll have a RX-7 with a nice interior yet, dammit!

LOL..yeah. I just let it roll off like water off a duck's back.

I was very pleased that there was a little negative camber on the rear. No railroad ties, chains, or bottle jacks needed.

The day before yesterday I dropped the FB off at a shop for some changes. I'm headed to the Land of the Rising Sun in a few minutes. Will be there for a few weeks enjoying myself. I'll pick her up when I get back and share what's been done here.

As of last night:

Phone cam shots don't do the colors justice; I should have some out-in-the-sun shots later today.

Next up, get the seats put together and in, and install the right-side door panel. Then a lot of cleaning to prep for the WHiV jaunt.

Install complete. Taking a short break before I dive in to cleanup for WHiV this weekend.

I'll get better pictures in sunlight (flash doesn't seem to like velour, heh) but here's the general effect:
