GA What can i get for my car?

I need a good honest guess on what my 7 is worth. I have a 79 Sa with a lsd, 13b street ported motor thats not put in. I need intake, carb and header to drop it in along with clutch and pp. The body is straight, interior needs work. I have a bunch to go with it. Just curious .

Does it run in it's current state? If it does not run I would say the body is worth $300 and the engine $500.

Without inspecting the car and engine, it's hard to put a price on it. To give you an example, my father, who is in his middle 60's, was looking for an RX-7. He found one on AutoTrader for $4000. It looked great in the pictures. Upon inspection we found it was not even worth $1500 to us.

I don't think you can ever expect to get any more than $750 - $1000 for a non running car. I think if you sold the car and engine together, you'd be lucky to get that much for it. People just don't want to buy someone else's half finished project. Nothing against you, but there are too many unknowns involved for someone to spend a significant amount of money. Finish it yourself and enjoy it. You aren't going to get rich by selling it.

If you are like me, you have enough invested at this point that you'd be better off completing the project and keeping it for yourself. Even if you sell the car and all the parts, you'll more than likely be selling them at a loss, and hoping to recoup some of your costs.

I'm with Jamie and everybody else. There's not much point in selling because you won't get what it's worth. I've gone through this with several of my GSL's, after they've developed some problems and been replaced by a new addition to the stable.

Their for sale value even as a running car is not as great as their value to me, either as a future driver or for parts. The only downside, sometimes the driveway gets kind of full of FB's, a special problem with the wife but still at least a good opportunity for a nice photo.

Here's my driveway a couple years ago:

I was trying to purchase a Turbo 1st Gen, but couldnt get all the money in time. I believe things happen for a reason. So it is back to plan one and finish my 13b Sa swap. My wife would leave me if i spent 2500.00 on another RX7 and it died on me.

u never get out of it what u have in it when u sell it. they're just not as valuable as u would like them to be. u'd probably get more for it parting it than trying to sell it whole and non running.

What may help is it is a 79 if you had a really low VIN that attracts some but those same ppl maybe turned off you don't have the original engine

boost the 13B you have

just another view

Even a low VIN won't get you very far if it's not at least mostly-original. & it sounds like this one's not - - LSD swap, motor out, interior needs work, no intake stack, no clutch.

There are people who will buy partial cars as project starters, but they won't usually pay top dollar for them because they know they will need much $$ to finish the project their way.

Totally agree Sir, just throwing it out there as I didn't know the cars full story, example my SA has an LSD, but it's in my drum brake rear and I have the original pumpkin so could be swapped back in ... just sayyin

Yep yep, no argument... it's all about what the buyer's willing to pay, & what the seller's willing to take.

& how much urgency one or the other feels.

I think SA's among other 7's are worth more in an unmolested state.

I paid $3000 for my 79 gs and it was damn near close to mint. probably the best running 12a ever too. I know I got a good deal. The body and interior was all I cared about but got everything else as a bonus. I seen the same year and model for $500 before too.

Getting what you want for your Rx7 has about the same odds as getting hit by lightening
