Its an sa with fb bumpers, I did the samething on my sa.
the sa bumpers are about 33# each and the fb bumpers are about 12-15# each. in solo csp class you can update/backdate with in a car series, which means you can swap out parts from any 79-85 rx7.
lightened my fb bumpers with a hole saw the replace the bumper skin.
its not a hard conversion. I kept the sa sheet metal under the bumper and put a Kamei spoiler on it. I did have to cut the fb bumper to make it fit over the spoiler.

how much lighter did it make it? and was it worth it or what?
i mean its gonna be driven on the weekends
probably not at a track because well thats too much $ for one day
but i mean for just messin around on the weekends is it still a good setup or like some people said in another thread does it make it weaker not having that big ol hunk of steel haha

Is it worth it? if you want to reduce the weight of your car, yes it is.
if you are going to just drive around on the streets than, no it isn't.
are the aluminum bumpers weaker than the steel, probably but they still had to pass the government crash test with the aluminum bumpers.
As far track time costing to much, thats up to the individual, but a track day for Nelson Ledges is about $100-$120 for the day. Which is probably cheaper then a speeding ticket and higher insurance rates. my 2 cents.

yea but the closest track to me is a good ways away and my friends dad owns a business and will let us set up a little autocross track haha
but like the reason im asking about the conversion is because where the rear bumpers reinforcement is when you remove the bumper well its rusted all of the way up til where its welded i think they were just spot welds can't remember
but my teacher wants us to cut that off if we can and since the gastank is so close we can't really weld and cutting is still gonna be a pain
so what i was wanting to know about the conversion is if we were to cut where its welded maybe we could get the fb rear bumper and get a lip to cover where we cut
it just about covers it up with the fb bumper when we put it up to it
so thats why i wanted to know

I really like the look of that car. My widebody kit was designed for SA bumpers, didn't have any at the time when I built it. The FB rear bumper is pretty much a bolt on but I had to mod the front one. Trashed 2 FB bumpers bumper doing it and still never liked the result. I finally came across a a pair of front/rear SA bumper for sale. Once they showed up, I couldn't believe how much heavier they are than the FB ones. They will be going on the widebody, to hell with the weight difference. I've removed the rubber strips and am thinking about drilling a series of round holes where the rubber strip was to reduce the weight. On the front bumper, it will also allow more into the radiator, might be a good place to move the FMOC to.

top remove the bumper there are 2 bolts on each of the bumper "shocks" that bolt it to the body of the car. you will need a 17mm socket and a long extenion to rech them. plus there is a bolt inside the rear hatch area under the little plates. you need an fb bumper with the fb bumper shocks its a direct bolt in. good luck I hope thats what you are looking for.

has anyone ever tried to keep the sa fenders but change the bumpers to the FB? and the valence to the FB too?
