What is this 80 RX7 worth?

Below is the ad, the body looks perfect! Need an idea of what it is worth?

The vehicle is a 1980 Mazda RX-7. 10th edition. The car itself has approx. 86K miles and about 8 years ago I put in a new engine, which currently has 20 K miles on it.. The car had set an a garage for 14 years not driven and then I purchased it and the seals/etc had dry-rotted from not being driven..

Ok, thanks. I am asking because I found it for sale and I think the guy is asking too much....just wanted to get another opinion.

it really depends on its overall condition. the 1980 10AE was a pretty rare car and you really do not see many around. what is the seller asking?

We would need pics to give you a bestimate. Offthe cuff I would say 3 - 5k for this car with no rust and a good interior and all orginal mechanicals with no dents and paint that is still good (no peeling, flaking or primer). Without pics its hard to tell. Its in Ohio and the rust issue could be a real one.

Full set of pics, inside and out along with a detailed mechanical description of what works and what doesn't, along with any mods, repairs, and parts replaced. Be sure to include pics of rear wheel wells, pull the cover where the bins are in the FBs to check for rust and check the underbody. Also, what's the asking price?

You should take your own pics, and if you have a rotary friend, take him/her with you. $5200 is on the high side. At that price, it should be in tiptop shape, mechanics, cosmetics and absolutely no rust with perhaps minor surface rust underneath.

Keep in mind, and I'm not being sexist, women tend to get taken advantage of when buying cars because they often to buy on impulse, emotion. Take a male friend with you who you who trust that has experience in car buying and has good negotiating skills.

Read through the FSM, link is in my sig line. Knowledge is power and the more you know about 7s/rotarys may lessen the chance of being taken advantage of and improve your negotiating position.

if all the seals are dry rotted then itll need a rebuild and its worth anywhere near the asking price.

it its in PERFECT shape and needs the rebuild, $3K.

Exactly, plus sitting for 14 years means all the suspension is basically gone and pretty much the weather stripping/vacuum hoses/tires/etc.

Hard to say..it seems like it had been sitting for 14 years up until this owner got it about 8 years ago. The engine was replaced at that time due to rotten seals and now has 20k on the rebuild. So the seller has been averaging 2500miles/yr since the rebuild. It might be in good shape and it might not. Depends how long it has been sitting and if the seller fixed all of the things that were rotten from the 14yr sit.

If he is asking 5200, then I would assume that it still runs good and everything. It is possible that it was rebuilt, 20k miles put on in the 1st year, and then sat for the last 7 years. In that case, things would be in bad shape. Need more info from the seller + pics to know for sure.

Anyway, without more info, I would say 3k tops. Even with a good engine and such, that is probably about what it is worth. It would have to be perfect in every way to even be worth anything close to 5k.
