you need to bolt your fuel pump assembly to the unit body like it's supposed to be. right now its hanging down. you will then find that the "spring" is actually your fuel filter retainer. the retainer holds the filter in the vertical position. i can post a pic of the proper setup tomorrow afternoon if you would like.

I was trying to be funny, probably a common newbie mistake.

This is how I found it. Plus a lot of other fix-up I need to undo.

The anger was building up at the PO and I was trying humor as an outlet
