throttle cable setup on dhla's

i just got my car all together yesterday and noticed that where the retainer for the throttle cable is located has a large amount of flex just due to the plate not being strong enough.... this is the way the previous owner of the setup had it so that's why i just went ahead and did it..... needless to say this is not good, it's actually causing it to bend back and lose throttle after it is under acceleration (if that makes since)

so what are some of the methods you guys use on your dhla setups for the throttle cable?

Why not make a stiffening brace that goes on the top of the air filter plate and under the air horn to the place where the bolt holds the throttle bracket? You would need to take care to cut it evenly and whatnot but it is doable.

i was just worried that the 2 tiny bolts holding the air horn on wouldn't be strong enough to handle the force from the cable.... also i have a pretty weak spring for the throttle return right now and i am going to put in a stiffer one i have, and that is only going to amplify the problem once it is installed... although i could make one that bolted into both of the air horns....

I don't think the problem is the plate being too flimsy. You need to adjust
your throtte pedal stop so it doesn't transfer all the force to the cable
once its at WOT. This will also help keep the carbs butterfly mechanism
from wearing prematurely.

it begins flexing before the throttle is at WOT... it starts at about 1/2 throttle and then by the time it pulls to WOT the bracket moves about 1/2 in.... the butterfly mech doesn't even hit WOT it sit's about 1/8th in. off the stop when the pedal is fully depressed...

i will shoot some video of it today so you guys can have a better idea of what it's doing....

considering i have no clue as to what it is technically doing, i will also try to adjust the stop today and see how that goes

It will probably have more rigidity once the filter is in place and the end
cover bolted on. I have this setup and honestly never noticed it as an
issue. I'll drop down to my garage and give it some exercise and see
what I see and then report back.

i decided not to run the that filter set-up... i like the look of the air tubes, so i'll probably just run socks on it.... ANYWHO, went ahead and made a bracket
