Had my 1979 carb rebuilt by a professional who is very familiar with early Rxs. (He worked on them when they were new.) Idles fine but under load it bogs down unless I give it about 1/4 - 1/2" of choke. The guy took the carb off, inspected everything, reinstalled. Same issue. Obviously running too lean but cannot figure out why. I think its causing the car to fail the 2500 RPM emissions test. Idle test is fine.

Any ideas?

Come on folks. One of you sages has to have some idea what's wrong. Need help.

 

Is the choke needed after it gets going or only to get rolling? I would think its related to the accelerator pump and maybe it needs adjusted some.

Also, are the floats levels correct when viewed thru the inspection glass for each side?

I agree it sounds like a lean condition, so its something to do with metering the right amount of fuel on increased vacuum. Make sure to check for vacuum leaks as well.

 

On acceleration, if the choke isn't out about 1/4" it starts balking like it's starved for fuel. Floats levels look correct to me. No vac leaks that I can find.

Is there some sort of thingamabob that increases the mixture on acceleration?
