"Spry Beastie" is her formal name; my friend Tony used to call her "Zor" (based on the license plate) but it was giving her gender conflicts.

She grew up in California, after all; takes a while to unlearn some foolish notions.

My five 84/85 GSL's were/are named the following:

The Beige One (my first RX-7, in Rotary Heaven)

The Brown One (my second RX-7, also in Rotary Heaven)

The White One (the third one and my favorite, rumored to have gone to Rotary Heaven but I think she's still roaming the highways somewhere)

The Silver One (my fourth, most recent and all around best RX-7, currently for sale)

The White One Two (my current project, this one is going to be something special)

Also I just bought a 2012 SkyActive Mazda3 hatchback, it's Dolphin Gray and I call him Flipper. The 38 mpg is for real!

i don't always, but my old and NODE's current 79 SA got named cherry, its red, and in really nice shape...

my current 82, is called peepers, not because it has a Peripheral Port, but because of the SNL skit, peepers no!

the convertible FC has no name, but the other FC is kenny's car or project darkhorse or poopers... depending...

Nice idea for a thread...The corral right now consists of:

Banzai, my original car named after.....me! An old tag from my teens / twenty's and a reputation for racing motorcycles in a WFO kinda way.

Ellie, a version of LE, or Limited Edition (79 Limited)

Gracie, 1980 GS, the original owner was a "little ole laddy from Pasadena"

BB, a 2nd-unrestored and unmolested 79 Limited. BB stands for Beat Black

Goldie, 69 GMC pickup

Tonka, 03 F-250 pickup

Precious, a pro street style chopper. She's "my precious"

KayTee, another pro street bike named after a cute little white dog I used to have, that had one Bad ***, Wild Animial Snarl to her.

Damn, I guess I have no imagination.

Seriously though we just call it "The Mazda", completely ignoring the fact that others have one. :P

Tim, all first gens have a soul, you know that. If it has a soul, it deserves a name.

Let's see, how 'bout if we call your beautiful silver SA "Waffle" or "the Waffle Wankeler" or something like that?

How about we don't!

Besides, if you start calling your car a girl name, for instance, your better half might
start to get jealous of a CAR!

Only if you make the mistake of saying things like "So, I was spending some time inside my beautiful 30-year-old Japanese girlfriend yesterday, having a helluva a great ride, when suddenly..." within their earshot.

Vehicles and other complex machines have a long tradition of being referred to in the female, & being given names. Started with ships, I think, but it's mainly due to the similarity in nature between women and machines: Both are complex, elegant, willful, capable of inexplicable malfunctions, unable to be reasoned with... and can bite your head off in the blink of an eye if you don't treat them right.

The "Pathetic Fallacy" is normally just silly fun, of course.

Except with cars. And guns.

My 7 yo daughter refers to the rx7 as my "baby car" - not because I "baby it" but because it's smaller than the other two cars we own (think Papa Bear, Momma Bear & Baby Bear).

I and my better half named her Natsuki, she said she deserved a female Japanese name Mom calls her Rex and Dad The 7 (the old hotrodders have both taken a liking to her) and my truck is Big Blu due to the fact he's a big blue K1500 GMC. My dad and mom both did this too when they were building their muscle and sports cars at my age and now again since my sister and I are grown. My little 7 has a heart, soul, and, personality so she gets a name.

My 83 is referred to as "the FB" to my wife and "the yellow car" to my friends that cant remember the difference.

Wife's 87 is referred to "the FC" or "the white car" to friends, etc etc.

The bad thing is I will still most likely call my FB "the yellow car" even though it will soon be turned green.

Should also mention that we have "the black car" and "the red car". Black is 2010 Mazda 3S GT (my DD) and Red is 98 Honda Civic EX (Her DD).

"Rexi" is actually the name my girlfriend gave my car! She refers to my car with "Rexi" more often than I do haha, and I don't mind it. I just call it "The 7"

That's why Flipper is a him. He's just plain competent.

38 real mpg in mixed driving, top of the ratings crash tests, looks like something from the deep blue sea, Mazda Zoom Zoom performance.

That smile on the grill is no accident.

Flipper, no emotions, all competence. He's a he.

The blue car and the brown car are what I call them. Not really names.

I think what's more important is to name the engines in them. There's Icy and The Beast.

Icy

The Beast
