Scratches on housing

How detramental are scratches on the motor housings? I am new to rotary motors and am in the process of porting my first 12a. After tearing down the motor and cleaning the ports up a bit I cleaned all the grime off the surface (the motor has been sitting for years). I found several small scratches on the housings, some are better than others. They are all pretty small, but large enough for your finger nail to catch when going across them. Is the motor shot? Does it need to be reground?
Thanks,
