I am upgrading my stereo in my FB (85 GSL). Of course I am doing it without cutting one single wire from the original stereo, amps and speakers... should I decide to sell, and a purist wants it, I want them to be able to just remove what I am installing and PLUG original system back in with no issues.
So, with that said, I want to run a power & ground from the battery into the "cabin" to power my new stereo and amp....no big deal except I would like to know the best location to go through the firewall..no sense in me re-inventing the wheel if someone has already found a good location...THANKS FOR ANY ASSISTANCE!!! Mike
If you don't have AC, you can use the factory holes on the passenger side. Other then that, without drilling a new hole, which I'm not a fan of, the passenger side hole for the factory main engine harness will work.
KansasCityREPU....thank you. I do have A/C, I will look for the hole for the main harness...I too am no fan of drilling new holes...doing my best to keep the car original or at a minimum return the car to original with ease...thanks again!!!
Like to hear you aren't hacking up the wiring!! I was very lucky to start my build with a clean chassis, original paint etc. The only victim of shoddy work was a stereo install that looked like it was from the late 80s!
Here is how I ran a dedicated positive wire for my fuel pump. It attaches to the fusible link block and piggy backs right onto the positive wire eyelet from the battery.
Then it runs in along beside the original firewall grommet.
Another option for you might be to steal the positive wire from your factory cigarette lighter. Or... I am running aftermarket gauges by using a tapped fuse which is clean and reversible. Just keep a. Eye on what current you are drawing on the circuits. I've already gone to headlight relays so the OEM wiring is not working nearly as hard.
Engine bay is dirty!! Haven't cleaned it yet for this season.
