Exclamation HELP!! FC stereo installers!! PLEASE!!

OK, so I just got a used Alpine IVA-C800 multimedia head unit, with a DVA-200 DVD player for my 90 GXL. I have already rewired all the speakers to bypass all the factory POS amps. I am having some serious issues trying to get this thing fired up! I am attaching some shitty pics of the half assed wiring I have done to attempt to just get it up and turned on, but no luck. I am using a wiring harness adapter for the power and switched power set up. The rest of the speaker terminations come from the head unit box under the seat.

If anyone has experience with these or other units like it and can help make me up a wiring guide, I would be VERY THANKFUL!! I don't want to have to take it somewhere to finish it for me. I'm also gonna try to put up the factory wiring diagram Alpine supplies on their website.

Also there is a picture of the trigger I need to use to get away from having to use the foot and parking brake to viw the LCD. No idea where that splices in. The stereo was in an 86 SE and the wiring was absolutely retarded.

Well the pdf is too large to put up, so I'll try to get you there.
Go to www.alpine-usa.com
click on Support
click on Alpine TechCenter (bottom left)
at the login screen, click on "Consumer Site"
under the heading "Alpine Information Zone" Click on "Product Technical Information"
next, click on "Product Feature and Specification Sheets"
then click on "Head Units"
then on "Multimedia Station Head Units"
Finally click on the "info " icon on the right side of the screen under IVA-C800.pdf

The specs and diagrams are on page 2.

Whew. Help me.

its possible you have a short somewhere in one of your splices. alpines are well designed peices and if they detect shorts will either turn of the internal amp or turn off the whole unit. double check your wirring and make sure its all coveres up. heat shrink is ideal but at least get a few good wraps of electrical tape over ever splice.

ive done few stereos in my day and have found it to be best to run as much of your own wiring as possible and dont even bother with POS adapter harnesses.

-run a new fused power source right from the battery (yours probobly recomends this in the manual)
-run a new ground to the chasis
-use a multimeter or a test light to find the switched 12v turn on wire, cut it off the back of the oem harness and splice it into the alpine harness
-do the same for the dimmer wire
-i think the power antena wire is the pink one but it was a long time ago. you will need a spst (single pole single throw) standard 12v relay to make this work. mazda in its infite wisdom used the radio as the ground instead of the posative as every other aftermarket radio does for the antena signal. you need the realy to flip the power the other way.
-good call running all the speaker wires, just make sure they dont chafe on something and cause a short
- look out for the metal frame of the speakers rubbing against the metal of the car, this can cause shorts and keep the unit from working

hope this helps

I'll try that, the connections are not protected yet since I soldered everything and am just trying to get her to fire up. I did find one boo-boo though. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to connect the remote wire to power, stupid. I'm gonna go to bed soon. I hope to have some answers or direction by tomorrow afternoon when I get off work.

i'm thinking it's a short too. make sure those connections aren't touching when you're trying to fire it up. and those wires on the left that aren't being used... make sure to cover each of the ends individually because they shouldn't touch at all.

Alright. I am going to resume the install tomorrow. If all goes well, I'll be in business.

lohaus- I have the relay, I already did my research on that, plus Fero313 is going to wire that up for me since he had to with his new stereo. The speakers are now all mounted with custom plastic mounts, and all connections are soldered for no chance of falling off or coming in contact with the metal unibody.

Anyone know how to hook up the trigger box so I don't have to use the parking brake/foot brake BS to get the screen on all the time?

Not sure about the trigger (I can't afford an LCD screen in my car )

But, be careful if you turn it on while rolling.......cops can nail you big time for that.

DONE!!!!

Piece of cake once I re-loomed the entire thing. The previous job was about as half assed as it could have possibly been.

Thanks to all
