I think this is really cool...seems like I keep seeing it pop up on ebay all the time... You would prolly have to do a complete rebuild of everything since it has probably been sitting around for decades...

Wow and the price...step back from the crackpipe!!!

He has stated in his listing

"PLEASE NOTE:
THIS ROTARY ENGINE IS SOLD AS IS FOR PARTS OR REBUILD
MILEAGE UNKNOWN "

I don't see why anyone would assume that the engine would be in running condition. I would just want the rotors out of the engine. Pretty much everything else would be useless.

I've seen many pics of this engine as it's my dream engine. I would buy this as a parts engine, I'm sure the huosings are shot as hell, I always thought that intake manifold is sexy as hell.

If its shot, then thats a lot for a comletely useless setup.. If its OK on the other hand, you would also want the housings (better chrome, and oil injection). The front and rear plate is basically stock 12A, but the oil pump on the other hand, is the same as the "racing" one from Mazdatrix. The tricky thing is that the chain and drive gear does not fit any other motor i know of.. I know, i just had to change mine..

Its also the only front mount rotary, with provision for oil drain from the turbo in the front cover. Plus, the manifold is also neat. Turbo is waaaay to small tough

The two ECUs are actually one ECU for fuel, and one for a very primitive knock control system. Oh, an you would want the dizzy, as its the only old school dizzy with boost retard!

That engine could actually be worth a little in parts, come to think about it!

EDIT: And the tranny is a stronger unit as well.. But good luck finding a counter weight for those rotors, if you would ever want to use a light flywheel!

BTW, the rotors in that puppy are the lightest 12A rotors available.

If it's injected, then wouldn't you also need the MAF? Why don't I see fuel injector bungs in the center iron?

I learned something new today.... all this time I thought the 12a turbo was a blowthrough a nikki set up!! Wow!

Here is a quote from Wiki...

Turbo

Turbocharged 12A installed in Mazda CosmoThe ultimate 12A engine was the turbocharged and fuel injected engine used in the Japan-spec HB series Cosmo, Luce, and SA series RX-7.[citation needed] In 1982 a 12A turbo powered Cosmo coupe was officially the fastest production car in Japan[citation needed]. It featured "semi-direct injection" into both rotors at once, a technique that was much more successful than it would appear. A passive knock sensor was used to eliminate knocking, and later models featured a specially-designed "impact turbo" which was tweaked for the unique exhaust signature of the Wankel engine. The engine continued until 1989 in the HB Cosmo series but by that stage it had grown a reputation as a thirsty engine.

Output was 165 hp (123 kW) at 6000 rpm and 186 Nm (137 ft·lbf) at 4000 rpm.

Applications:

1982–1989 Mazda Cosmo
1982–1985 Mazda Luce
1984–1985 Mazda RX-7

That 12A turbo engine and other like it that came out of the last series of the SA22 run on any injection computer around, so unless you have a complete wiring loom, airflow meter and computer it's probably going to be easier to use an aftermarket computer. Besides, the factory trapdoor airflow meter these engines used belong in the stone age, and are easily damaged by backfires. the distributor based electronic ignition works acceptably

I have always wanted a 12At as well, but by all accounts it is more reasonable to build your own 12A turbo. For the same money it would cost for a 12At and to rebuild it you could rebuild a 12A you already have and buy a bigger turbo, prep the carb, and have a much more potent package. That's just my two cents, though.
