Racing question

Ok so I've never been in a legit drag race before and this kid at work just absolutely thinks his bone stock 92 probe v6 will leave my 83 RX-7 in the dust. My cars got RB header, power pulse intake, muffle, 13B spark plugs, and 2G leading coil. I think I stand a pretty good chance but like I said I've never been in a legit drag race on a legit strip before. I've races friends on the street and done some stop light to stop light stuff but that's pretty much it so I'm looking for a lil advice as far as exactly when I should shift. Should I wait till 7k rpm in every gear or should I shift before that? Btw his probe is an auto and he has even less racing experience not to mention his car is much heavier which I'm hoping will bridge the gap since he has like 20-30 hp more than me.

Dont be a moron take that match to the track. Too many people have been killed or hurt due to "street racing" That being said I think you should be able to take him.

You do not have a drag car. Take him to a road course and show him what up. Thesecars are designed to carve corners. Is you ***** any bigger if you beat him in a drag race?

I suggest heading out to a drag strip on a test and tune night and just see how you do. Practise makes perfect, and this way you can compare your average E.T again'st the manufacturers numbers for the Probe. With that info you can make a decision on whether or not you should bother racing him. But as Mikeric said, these cars are designed to attack corners, not run straight lines all night. Challenge him at an autocross. There has to be a group in your area that runs them on a semi regular basis.

Agreed. Why play in his sandbox? Sign up for an autocross and take him to your own playground, where you will hold the upper hand. Even though he has an automatic, he will smoke you easily with that V6 if you go to a drag strip.

Check at www.myautoevents.com and you will be surprised at the number of races that are taking place around you that you never knew about.

If you do decide to go this route, let me know and I'll give you enough tips to make sure you stomp him easily.

His car is ~140 hp at ~2700 pounds, front drive auto.

Yours is ~130 hp with mods at ~2400 pounds, rear drive manual.

It would be a close race, he would probably launch quicker but you might catch up
and maybe edge him out in the end if you don't shift too much. Now you get a
better carb and do some other work and not a problem.
